zibby, let's not fall out. The book speed for the w204 c63 is 4.5 secs. A smidgen below the c450.

Who gives a damn what the "book speed" is? Also, the "book speed" is actually 4.4 seconds for the W204 C63. Still a half-second (which is an eternity in the performance car world) faster on paper than the C450.

We, however, care about real-world numbers.

And the only reason we are annoyed is because you are posting about a car that has no business being discussed in this forum.

If I'm not mistaken claimed 0-60's were:
4.4 for Base
4.2 for Performance Package
4.1 for 507 Edition

We are all aware that Mercedes notoriously underrates the numbers. Yes Car and Driver gets under 4 seconds and could do so all day long, but I'd probably be able to do 4.1 in perfect conditions a couple times out of 10.

The whole issue is that your "facts" are wrong. The C450 will be a good car, but very few people who want and can afford a C63 will purchase the C450. It's like they say about the Boxter/Cayman; "The only reason you buy one is because you can't afford a 911."

zibby, I totally respect your POV but MB describe the c450 as a "true AMG". That to me is code for the future direction of AMG.

who gives a ****, you want to make this a dick contest? You're driving a POOR MANS AMG. You're so finanically broke you need to go buy a base model mercedes then pay an extra $5k for a AMG badge on the back.

if the engine doesn't have the AMG plaque on the intake manifold, It's a poor mans AMG. Who cares what MB says, it's ALL MARKETING, It's MARKETING to get poor **** like you to buy the pipe dream, and guess what, it's WORKING

They sell you the dream, they make PROFIT ..they are a CORPORATION that has LAWS to abide by..AKA making SHARE HOLDERS MONEY, AKA SELLING TO MORONS LIKE YOU

Have fun being sold, Sheep

huh? WTF?

Enlighten us as to how a C450 is superior to a C63 please?

It's as if you say Audi S3 is better than S4 (technology in S4 from its LSD to its ADS is what you don't see). Just because 0-60 is few tenth off, that doesn't mean the C450 is as good or better than the C63.

C450 is going to be a very good car, something capable of 12.8 seconds 1/4 mile, and yes with its 4Matic it will be easier to launch and all around it will be very quick, however C63 will be faster not only in a straight line with RWD, but it will be a much better performance car and in a track will destroy anything a C450 is capable of doing.

I don't understand why some people don't like the idea of the C450, it is Mercedes' answer to Audi's S4 and BMW's upcoming 335is and 435is.

C450 to me is a Luxury Sport Sedan with a powerful V6 and better braking capabilities than the C300, and it will be very easy to drive, and won't sound that good. C63 is a driver pleasing Sports car that can easily get you in trouble, and is luxurious enough, yet sounds amazing.

C450 is a good date who has her masters in Sociology and wants to have kids and raise a family, yet drinks a bit and gets a little tipsy, where C63 is a sl*tty wild date that all she wants is to F**** all day long and have a great time.

They're both great for different purposes.

This thread is an obvious troll from a poster that has made lame attempts at posting about how awesome a c450 is supposed to be in the past.

Why you continue to engage someone that is posting simply to rile you up (and is succeeding quite well at that) is beyond me. Carry on I guess.

Not sure OP will be able to get this metaphor. Because any sex is the best sex and anything with a badge is a true AMG

But I can understand AMG owners feeling a bit cheated.
This is why I called you a troll. Nobody here feels cheated one bit. Everyone has been saying to you that 450 is not close to C63. You are the only one who keeps repeating that.

I drove the C400 thinking it was an interesting new model that looked decent on paper. The difference in feel, power, and the ultimate drive was night and day. The C400 was too soft, too electronic, too disengaged, vs C63 which was opposite. I understand that it was the 400 vs the 450, but from what i gather, they are pretty similar except for some trim and badges.

The only place where C450 wins is the fuel economy, but your average AMG owner doesn't really care about that. If you care, by all means get the C450. But don't tell the crowd here that its a superior car because its far from it.

When are the new W205 C63s being released? I'm assuming the market prices for the W204 C63s will go down a bit? Hopefully enough to get in my budget range by the summer...

I believe the W205 C63 should begin production sometime in March.

I've read in a couple places that the expected combined mpg for the 4.0 will be right around 30mpg, maybe over.

2015 E63S AMG & 2013 GLK350
The sad part, or amazing part depending on how you look at it, is that a run of the mill C class (in this case the C450) at 362hp/384tq makes more power and almost as much torque as the 349hp/391tq E55 AMG that got me into these wonderful cars all those years ago - granted it took 15+ years to catch up.

I do agree Mercedes needs to limit the amount of models it slaps the AMG badge on and restrict that to actual real AMG models - at least C450 "fake AMG" sport owners will not be flooding the private lounge.

I agree. And fortunately, the C450 AMG Sport will not be wearing any authentic AMG badging.

It gets two tiny "AMG Sport" badges on the front fenders. Those likely won't appear on U.S.-spec C450s.

The rear deck reads (and will read): "C450 4MATIC"

zibby, most people look beyond badging. Subtle badging on the front bits is enough. Less is more. I'm sure the next gen c63 will catch up to the c450's styling.
As I've said before, my thread has been misunderstood. I'm just asking how AMG will raise their game to compete with the c450? I think it will be on the luxury stakes rather than speed. A decent interior would be a start.

I honestly don't see how MB can justify such a huge price gap given that overall the c450 is a better all round car. As quick? No. Better value and more rounded? Yes.
If it was so important, why not go with an E63? Most here bought the C63 because of the way it drives not because it was the cheapest AMG.

Realjones88, I'd be very happy with either car. I drive a Ford Focus! I am looking though in the nearish future to getting an MB. All I'm saying is that on paper the c450 beats the c63 hands down.

Saphgrey, identical to the c450. So how do MB justify the huge price gap?
