With the imminent launch of the impressive looking C450 AMG Sport what does the future hold for AMG? The C450 arguably is a far superior car to the C63 so where does the AMG brand go? More speed? Very expensive. Lower running costs? Dilutes the brand. The C450 is a very impressive looking car and consciously or not Mercedes may have signalled the end for AMG.

Its not a bad looking car.
The brand is just bridging the gap between standard fare and hardcore AMG stuff. There will be those that don't want to spend the money for C63.

What now? The real AMGs come out. Monsters that scare people that would even CONSIDER buying a poser, ego stroking C450 "AMG." Cars that wake the dead on cold start and billow smoke from their wheel wells. Cars that make Prius drivers scowl at you because your exhaust crackles and pops on the overrun to a stoplight. So go ahead...get a C450 AMG. But know that there will be a W205 C63 ready to put you in your place should you get too big for your britches...

Just like M badges on 335i, AMG badges on C450 is silly. MB is trying too hard to milk the AMG name and they just dilute it.

what am i missing? the c450 uses the same engine as the c300, but has a different tune? couldn't you just buy a c300 and tune it to make it a c450 and get the "c63 beating 4.9 second 0-60"?

Ill go ahead and guess since neither are out yet and have been tested. Lets guess the 450 does the 1/4 in 13.4s and the 63 will do 12.2s

Believe it or not bridging the gap is a good idea. There's alot of amg owners that have no business in an amg. You get the i thought i wanted a race car until i actually got a race car complaints. steering too stiff, eats tires, rides too rough, shifts jerky, brakes squeal, mpg, too loud, etc.... Then you have the ones that belong in amg's.... car is too slow, needs to be stiffer, louder, etc.... The new c63 base model starts in the 80k$s so it'll be a good in between price car.

The interior in the c450 is much nicer than in the c63. You've got practically the same performance for much less money and lower running costs.

As an aside, Mercedes describe the c450 as a "true AMG" on their website.

I can see the second-hand value of c63's dropping like a stone as many people will be a trading them in for a new c450. It is remarkable how AMG have managed to get such blistering performance from the c450 whilst giving decent mpg and low c02 emissions. It makes the c63 look very outdated imho.

C450 and c63, both sub 5 second 0-60. Both quick. C450 more luxurious yet cheaper. As Mercedes describe the c450 as a true AMG, maybe this is the way AMG will be going with all cars. Governments have to lower c02 so 6 litre engines have no future.

There's no practically about it, the c450 doesn't even come close to the C63 performance. Be gone now, back to your dark corner. No one will be downgrading from a C63 to a C450.

Mr Red, not sure there is room in the market for another c63 with the c450. Not enough difference to justify the price gap. Just stick a few more AMG badges on the c450.

You know the new W205 4.0tt C63 has 500+hp right? AND sport suspension, and race seats and...we could go on forever. A c63 is not in any way inferior to a c450...if you want to cruise and be comfortable fine, a c450 will be great, but it will be significantly slower in a straight line, as well as on the track in comparison to a c63, no matter how nice the interior is. Your entire argument is moot, you have no business here. Also, NOT "one man, one engine"? NOT an AMG

The c450's performance is in no way "blistering"...the new ford fukus will do 4.9 to sixty...but then you'd be in a focus...so...you get what you pay for.
