Petronas Oil
Why would AMG not push their F1 partner on their cars? Instead they push Mobil
Been using the Petronas now for about 12k miles, just had its second service with it and uses less now between fill ups than the Mobil before, little bit quieter too.

Petronas Syntium 3000 AV 5W40 is on the 229.31;229.51 lists and is not approved for our cars in NA (only approved for Western Europe)

And, just because Petronas decided to throw 5h!tl0ad5 of advertising money into the MB F1 team, it doesnt make their lubricants in any way, shape or form better than those produced by Exxon Mobil. Besides, the lubrication requirements of an F1 engine are so different from the lubrication requirements of a street vehicle that comparing the two is really like comparing apples and oranges. Just because they may make the F1 oil, it doesn't follow that they make good stuff for street use. Pratt & Whitney makes great jet engines and Lockheed Martin-Boeing makes great rocket engines that are used in the Atlas V rocket (well, the second stage at least - the first stage is actually a Russian RD-180), but that doesn't mean that they make great car engines.
The BEVO approved Petronas 0W40 (Syntium 7000) is still inferior to Mobil 1's 0W40 in every respect. Just look at the two spec sheets.

well said, was thinking exactly the same. Sponsoring an f1 team and making oil for that doesn't mean its better for our cars

Been happy since my switch over that was all I meant ;-)

As for the quality of the Petronas 0W40 oil, it is by no means bad (someone here did a VOA analysis a few weeks ago), and the analysis showed it is in line with other energy efficient and environmentally friendly oils. It is BEVO 229.5 approved, so by all means it's safe for use in the C63. It's just that it's not the best approved oil in terms of engine protection, which is presumably what the goal for most car owners is. I suspect that if energy efficiency and environmental friendliness were higher on someone's list than engine protection, they would not be driving a car with a 6.2L naturally aspirated motor in the first place.
I really don't get all the resistance against Mobil 1. The old Formula M and all other grades are in part hydrocracked dino juice and no better than the rest of the offerings on the market. The 0W40 on the other hand is the only one that's fully synthetic, has the best additive package and is really in a category by itself. I don't know why people are constantly looking for anternatives. Can someone enlighten me? I am not being sarcastic - I realy want to know why people keep looking at other inferior stuff when you can buy something objectively better for the same amount of money.
Petronas is the Malaysian state owned oil company. The don't have the infrastructure to support sales to a dealer network in the US
