To wrap, or not to wrap?
Hey guys,
Just bought a 507, but have not picked it up yet.
The dealership is offering to wrap a portion of the front of the car in Xpel for $600.
First question I have is... Do you guys suggest doing that? The car is Iridium Silver, so hopefully you should not see the line where the wrap ends.
Secondly, is this something that you guys suggest doing?
Just wanted to get some feedback before I make my decision on this.
Thanks in advance

I had my entire front end done with a clear wrap and it has paid itself off time and time again. So many little scuffs, chips, and scratches that haven't made its way to the paint.
$600 is not bad, depending on how much of the front end will be covered. You might want to get some quotes from local shops who specialize in wraps. They might be able to do the entire front end for you at a reasonable price. Markup with Merc dealers is always high. Good luck

^^ what he says. I have mine wrapped with Xpel Ultimate and on my next car I plan to wrap the whole hood rather than stopping just before mid way.
The line is noticeable but not as much as you would think, but the main thing is that half the hood has nicks and the front end does not. That is way more noticeable than the line itself. BTW 600 is a good price

I have the same car in the same color and would at a minimum wrap the whole hood, front end, rockers (side and underside) and the front of the rear wheel well from above the stripe up the arch about 1 ft. That area takes road debris that is thrown from the front tires and since its flailed out a bit it will get nicked up.
I did not do what I recommend but am looking to now. With less than 5,000 miles I see these areas as high priority.

I had my whole hood and front wrapped as well. I would highly recommend springing for the whole hood since the line on the film will be an eyesore if it's partially wrapped. Don't go through your dealer. Go to xpel.com and reach out to certified installers in your area.

$600 seems steep for just partial hood and fenders and mirrors.
I with a PPF company and we only charge $300 for xpel ultimate $250 for regular 3M PPF.
Find some local guys they are probably hired by the dealer to do it anyways.

As some have mentioned, it is worth it. Wrap the hood, bumper, fenders, and mirror. The whole car is a bit much. You wont see lines on where the wrap ends because if it is done right the end of the wrap will be tucked between the panels and such.
As for not waxing, not really a downside. Wax is there to protect the paint... which is what the wrap is doing.
I'd call around and see what people quote you. I'd also ensure that my paint was perfect before having the wrap done because whatever is under a clear wrap will never be corrected unless the wrap is removed.
PS -- It makes removing bugs super easy when you wash the car. I watched my neighbor literally just wipe the bugs away with 0 effort.

Appreciate all the replies.
Could anyone with an Iridium silver car post a photo showing how noticeable the lines are?
Also, how much did you guys pays to do the entire hood and front as some have suggested doing?
Cheers

I have a Palladium 2012 and the line on the hood is very noticeable. If you are going to have it done do the whole hood and front fenders. My car had the film on it when I bought it and I think I will probably strip it off.

If you are taking deliver of a brand new car you should definitely wrap the front end. Wrapping it will be pointless after the first rock chip.

I would recommend a clear wrap to protect the paint against stone chips .I'm not fan of matte colors nor reddish hue but it's up to you , if that color is OK then go for it .I have seen a orange G12 7 Series , it looks like fire deputy chief's car to me but each to own

The satin chrome finishes in general are fairly popular right now, based on the requests I've gotten from guys around here in socal and what I've seen in general of the cars that have been wrapped.
