Power windows convenience feature stopped working
Has anyone else experienced this or can shed some light? The thing I'm referring to is when you aim the smart key at the driver's door handle and hold the lock or unlock buttons down to open or close the windows and sunroof. Mine stopped working a couple of weeks ago. Thanks.

Not that you probably haven't but:
1. Point directly at sensor
2. Check key battery
3. Check car battery power
4. Unplug battery overnight and replug
See if these work...
Do you have keyless entry? Does that aspect work?

Check to see if rear window operation is deactivated in the driver's door window control panel. I think that may defeat the convenience opening/closing feature.
Is the battery strong in the Smart Key you are using?

Thanks a lot, guys. I'll check the rear window lock out (I'm not at the car atm). My key is a replacement, and it's only about 2 years old, so I'm guessing that battery is still good. Haven't had any other issues with it. Also, my car battery is also good.

There are 2 batteries in the remote 2025 I think.... One I believe is for ignition/starting, the other for remote arm/disarm of the locks and the window functions (I suspect this because mine stopped just like yours, but I have never had any issues starting the car).
I replaced both batteries, and all is well on 1 of the remotes, but the other 1 is still being finicky. but that remote is heavily warn out and requires multiple button presses just to lock/unlock the door.

I assume you've tried standing closer to the driver's door?
There's a certain distance that this works within - outside of that, it won't work.
With Audi's there's a relearn procedure (if the battery goes flat) but I don't recall one for Mercs...

Yeah, doesn't work even with the remote pressed right up onto the door sensor.

Don't ask my how or why this is, but I just tried it with my spare key, and it works. I then tried it immediately after with my usual key and it also works now. I don't know if something happened when I used the other key (reset, relearn, or whatever) or of its just coincidence. On a semi-related note, I also noticed the other day that my doors weren't auto locking once the car hit 10mph (or something like that). When I checked the settings/vehicle menu, that feature was disabled even though I always had it enabled and never changed it...

This seems to be an intermittent problem. It worked and then didn't work a few times since my last post. Since it is infrared, I would assume ambient light wouldn't make a difference, correct? I even covered the sensor with my hand and it worked, though, so I'm thinking it wouldn't make a difference if bright sunlight was shining on the sensor or if it was pitch dark.

Mines also intermittent, but I do not believe it has to do with ambient light, rather temp, sitting in the sun and it does not work, but works just fine at night. Heat will definately screw with IR
