To Mod or Not To Mod My BS...
So I've had my 2012 BS for a few months now and the itch to add a few HP is growing daily. I'm torn on what modding this rare car will do to value. Initially I thought doing something to such a rare car would dent the value a bit. Now, before anyone chimes in and says, "you won't get your money back for the mods", I know, lol. I'm not expecting the value to increase at all, I just don't want to destroy the value of it.
I'm toying around with the idea of adding a SC to it, thoughts? The car is awesome as it sits, but coming off of a 700hp 996 TT and a R8 V10 before that, it feels like it lacking.
So, options would be, add a SC and call it a day. Sell the BS, get a R8 Spyder and not worry about destroying the value of a rare car.
Thoughts?

Mod the BS, I can't see why it would hurt the value of the car...it may even entice others more when you go to sell it. Also it is more rare to see a BS (at least around here) than an R8.
If you were going to add a SC to it, what brand & stage would you go for? I think that would also call for a new build thread!

TBH, I haven't even started looking at kits, that was going to be the next thing on my list. Any suggestions are appreciated!

I still have a 97 M3/4 from the early days that I modified by adding an SC bringing the power up from 215 whp to 400 whp. It felt great but was a high maintenance car afterwards. Parts was a little harder to comeby because it was using non-stock parts. Now my young son wants a car. I was looking around and I would not touch a highly modified M3 because Im not familiar with what issues it might have. If something breaks or needs replacement, I cant just look up part numbers. I have to chase builders/vendors down and guess what the original user put in the car. Its a big hassle. As an example, my old M3 has an aftercooler, aftercooler pump by Bosch, after market flywheel/clutch with a modified clutch fork. If any of those goes it will be a pain to replace by the new owner cause he wont know what parts to get. So ... I want a car as stock as possible... Modified cars I believe will bring in less money, specially on a BS.

I would supercharge it as long as it is a well known company that makes the product aka Weistec. I know a member on there that had theirs supercharged at Weistec and sold the car for more then MSRP.
Take a look at this previous listings:

After talking with Weistec, I'm about 99% sure I'll be doing their stage 1 SC, I just have to decide if I want to send it there or have my local shop do it, which I know they can handle without an issue for sure.

See, I completely agree with this. Whenever I look for cars, even if I find one with the right miles, etc. If it has been modified with parts I don't agree with or I know aren't quality, I assume its been beat up on or hasn't been taken care of.
But....
Then I see things like this and that's what has me confused. I see what some have sold for with what I would consider, "proper upgrades" and they don't seem to have a problem with value.

Putting on just a tune though would IMHO lower the potential resale value of the car and shrink the number of prospective buyers (at least I wouldn't consider buying one that has been molested).
Putting on a S/C on the other hand might be an attractive option for a number of reasons. It is not an inexpensive mod - that speaks volumes about the owner and by inference the maintenence of the car - and requires that other things also get beefed up, and furthermore both produces a significant gain in power to make it worthwhile and makes it much more rare.
In response to one of the earlier posts, AFAIK there is no such thing as a Black Series E63.

It's just a car. IMO the C63 BS is not going to appreciate in value like the CLK BS has. It's proving to hold its value better than a normal C63, but barely. It's not such a rare car that you should be afraid to touch it. Make it how you want it.

2015 E63S AMG & 2013 GLK350
I agree mod it but wouldn't supercharge it, the 996 Turbo and R8 were both AWD and can manage way more power than the BS can IMO - however I had installed MBH headers with cat less x-pipe, ROW boxes with K&N filters, and OE tune on my C63 coupe and to me it made the car perfect and no issues for 27k miles till I traded it in. Nice bump in power but still relatively manageable, sounds incredible, and just keeps pulling up top.
The other nice thing is the headers/air box/tune were fairly easy to install and remove to make the car 100% stock again, virtually untraceable if you know what your doing.

Taking delivery on a 2012 BS. When looking at cars prior to this purchase I steered clear of any car that had even slight cosmetic mods. They only brought in 70 BS to the USA making it one of the rarest MB models so far. Won't be modding mine in any way. If I want crazy power to weight ratio I drive my Porsche cayman R with a custom 4.2 liter raby motor. That car is a little bit modded.

Mod your car as you want even if it is a BS. Although these are rare only a few builds (track/aero/CF ext package) will retain their value slightly better.
What matters is how well you maintain your car whether you have just a tune or a full SC build. Those 2 cars (driving emotions and chicagomotors) are from members here and were well taken care of. Almost bought that one in florida but got sold before I was able to pull the trigger at the time.
At the end of the day cars are not an investment.
