Looking to rent someones Command navigation update disks in SoCal
I've still got the original 2009 software in my C63 and would like to install a newer version. Anyone willing to loan me the disks for a fee?
Thanks!
Thanks!

from what ive read, and i might be wrong, but its not a simple insert and away u go. if u have a very old version of the nav, then u need to slowly update version by version as jumping too far ahead can create issues. ive also read that some people have found no problems jumping many years.
also, ive read that the nav disks are coded to each vin, now whether this is true or not, i havent tried myself, but ive read this numerous times.
then again, u can buy pirated versions online, so obviously they either cracked it or its bs.
mine is a 2012, and i can get access to a 2015, but i dont see a need as our roads dont change that much

These automakers' Nav systems are one of those examples in life where you certainly don't get what you pay for. Just look at the capabilities of a Garmin or TomTom and do a comparison. Carmakers need to outsource these type of things like they have outsourced braking systems to Brembo.

Eventually the Auto Android, etc. train will catch up to MB -- they are just being slow to adopt. The demographic of MB owners clamoring for this latest tech is definitely in the minority

The pre-facelift models nav are not VIN coded and can be passed around, though this is piracy and illegal it is physically possible on the pre-facelift c-class. Also you can jump from any version there is no need to do incremental. From what I have read (haven't done it personally yet) you just insert the disk and it starts copying data to the internal HD, once this is complete you will never need the disks again. It is a very slow process and takes something like 2 hours to complete though!

I agree the holy grail is coming but slowly. We should be able to use our existing phone (no matter the platform) be that Android, Windows mobile, iPhone even blackberry and basically miracast the phones nav app, Pandora app, etc on the cars display by wifi/bluetooth. No cables, no "only works with android" or whatever platform. This would allow true phone integration and allow the cars tech to always be up to date and evolve.
As it works now makes no sense at all.

I agree, and this may be an unpopular statement but I really feel that for the most part, greed is what creates piracy. If the cost was reasonable I feel less people would share disks but because they try to screw you it makes it worth it to have 5 people chip in $50 and buy the disks, kinda to screw them back if you will.
I personally have never updated my cars nav because I use my phone (always up to date maps and free) If the MB update disk was like $50 I probably would have updated it just because it was so cheap and why not but because of their greed I refuse to update it. They should be trying to sell quantity of the disks at 1/5 the price not a few sold and we killed the customers wallet. They need to think of it as more of a value added service than a revenue stream, even though I bet if they sold them cheaper they would clear more $ because they would sell 10 times more copies. That's just my .02 anyway!

The fact that I have to go get 3 separate discs, plus the ridiculous load times makes this a very archaic business model for software delivery, IMO.

It is alot of money for one reason....its just a software update. Once they create it, it literally costs them nothing to install it for you. And they have to create it anyway for the new cars they are pumping out.
We receive free updates for so many softwares, apps, etc. Why shouldn't this be the same? Hell at least give us a free update every year when we do our oil changes at the dealer! At the very least I should be able to go do a new update for free while the car is still under the 4 year 40K manufacturers warranty. That sounds reasonable and fair to me.
If I am not mistaken in the 2015 and on, its placed on a memory card and it runs off that. In other words, the dealer can swap out the memory cards in a couple seconds, so the process is quite fast these days (not on older models though)

You've pretty much said you'd be fine paying $250 for a part for your AMG that's only $50 for a regular C class, same part number. You know, because AMG, oh and because $250 isn't a lot of money.
Your oil change reference would have been a good example if bargain basement materials were used. However, that's not the case so it's basically just verbal diarrhea...
Thanks for your input though.
