AFE Pro Dry S vs Weistec Filters

Are Weistec Filters a true 'Dry Filter' ?
I've heard of people having issues with their car after install of Weistec Filters.

My brother is running into some of these issues at the moment.
I've been told to pull these out and replace with AFE Pro Dry S.

Weistec say on their website that their filters are true "Dry Filters'. But apparently it's common that these filters are giving people issues with MAF's, car lurching in traffic and idle issues.

These are the issues that my brother is having with his car and we've been told to replace them with AFE filters.

AFE Pro Dry S vs Weistec Filters

I've had mine in for a year. So far no issues.

No codes are showing up, but the car does lurch when removing foot off the brake to accelerate during traffic. Feels like it's going to stall sometimes.

Plugs
Coils
Vacuum Leak
etc was all checked and all is ok.

So was told it would be the Weistec filters and/or MAF's

Ok. Does anyone have comparabilities between AFE Pro Dry S and Weistec?

I have the ROW airbox and I've used both Weistec and AFE filters, to be honest I don't think that there's a difference. I don't even think the ROW airbox makes a difference. (Currently using Weistec, I switch them every few months)

However I think I know what you're talking about with the car lurching forward from time to time. I forgot which filter I had during that time but I remember the car jerking every now and then after I installed one of the filters. I went to my mechanic to have them check it out, they told me that they don't know what it is and to go back to them if it happens again, luckily it hasn't happened ever since and it's been about 11-14 months I believe. (I'm not saying Weistec/AFE air filters really do cause your car to jerk it could just be a coincidence that it happened around the same time after I switched filters)

If you think the filters are the issue just switch them and see if it goes away. The air filters don't cost much.

if you have throttle body cleaner, spray near the intake manifold gaskets while the engine is running. I'll bet you have a vacuum or intake leak with lurching forward. happened when I had my c63 last year and it was intake manifold gaskets ( upper ones).

We've tried all this, no vacuum leak. There was a minor one that was fixed a while back. But other than that, nothing atm.

Might throw a pair of AFE Pro Dry S filters in and see if it changes.

that will reprogram basic throttle settings and shift settings for the car. some cars are capable of learning habits over time, this clears those. there maybe be a fault hidden in there that you don't get displayed unless it's hooked up and searched for.

This may be an old post but still a great question. I just picked up a 2017 GLS63 with the M157/5.5 engine and was wondering if the AFE pro dry s filters are as good as the Weistec ones.

I like the fact that the Weistec filter seems to remove some restriction by reducing the height of their filter (so the opening into the air box is less restricted which you can see in their pictures and video for their M157/M278 filter). Looks like the AFE pro dry s is just as tall as the OE filter.

So, I was leaning towards the Weistec but they seem to be out of stuck and more expensive, whereas AFEs seem to be plentiful and cheaper ($245 vs. $173).

I personally have installed both in different cars and have been very happy. I have had and AFE pro dry s on my Porsche 911S for 3 years and never had any problems. I have had a Weistec on my GLA45amg for 2 years and no issues. Both seem to make the good sounds louder and increase the responsiveness (not sure by how much but both definitely feel faster and louder). I have had good luck with K&N filters in other cars over the years, just have to be careful not to over-oil them.

So, does anybody else buy the Weistec restriction removal as a reason to wait until it's back in stock?

No. It makes no measurable difference. Stick with a filter that filters well like aFe or OEM. That’s not a good place to optimize as there are minimal gains to be had and only negatives (filtering less).

Weistec filters in the M156 and aFe Pro Dry S filters in the M113K. Both are top-notch in terms of quality.

Buy whichever one is on sale when shopping.
