Thanks for sharing this interesting experience. More importantly thanks for sharing the size of the C63 tank. So next time when I push my luck and get to reach a gas pump, I will know how close it is from out-of-luck.

I don't think it is a good idea to run the tank low. The fuel pump is cooled by the fuel around and through it as far as I know. I don't know exactly how much you will or will not shorted the fuel pump's life be running the tank low or dry but it is best to fill up well before that point. The pumps' are expensive and difficult to change so it is best to prolong their life. I fill up at around a 1/4 tank or if the reserve light comes on I head right to the gas station. My largest fill up this year is 54L with a tank capacity of 66L.

These cars have small tanks anyways. It's my biggest, only complaint. However when it shows the car at the station on the display, you are running on fumes my friend...

i ran out of gas once too. i was on my way home and looking for a gas station, i had a bad experience once with one of the off-brand/no name gas stations so i try to stay away. i actually passed 2 of them and i ended up completely running out in the middle lane on RT 3 in NJ. i was stopped at the time, not in motion so i couldn't even coast to the shoulder lane. luckly some kind maytag truckers stopped and helped push me to the side before i caused a huge pile up or something.

I'm to afraid of cops to run lower then half tank, i want to feel that i'm safe to push the car hard for a while if needed without worry about fuel.
A friend of mine did just that with a clk 55, driving very low on fuel and accidentally passed by a unmarked copcar in high speed. Cop car started to chase and he floored it, outrun it but had the unlock of another one meet up and about then the fuel was out so he had to stop.
Got like 10 month suspended driving licens...
Ofc i can drive lower then half tank if driving within the speed limits, but how fun is that in a c63 xD

I'm to afraid of cops to run lower then half tank, i want to feel that i'm safe to push the car hard for a while if needed without worry about fuel.

I run until the distance to empty thing shows a little petrol bowser haha..had a few close calls I reckon.
going back to what was said earlier, my tune hasn't made much of a diff to fuel economy..if anything its worse due to a heavier foot...90% is city driving though. best I got from a decent highway drive was about 420km/14lt/100k - reckon my average is about 18-20lt though.

thats the most ridiculous thought process ive ever seen. im still trying to get my head around it. you dont want to have less than half a tank of fuel JUST IN CASE u need to outrun the police? what are u doing whereby you are in trouble with the police in the first place?
