edit- got the car back, 2 camshaft adjusters were replaced. how many do our cars have? guessing 2 according to diagram.
http://mbonlineparts.com/parts/2013/...gramCallOut=17 part 17 are the cs adjusters.
anyone do this job before? looks labor intensive..

i had a whirring kinda sound when i first got it about 3k miles ago, took it to dealer, they replaced idle pulley. noise stopped. now this noise has come about, i can't for the life of me remember if this is the same sound.. but it's coming right in front by the grill (it's definitely something rotational imo)
it's embarrassing, i started it up the other day and my buddy was like wtf.
and my dads car does not make this sound. i just want to hear from other members if they have heard something like this before.

Doesn't sound normal to me if its with a warm engine, I know mine makes whirling type noises when cold but once warm it stops.
Does have the sound of a pulley or belt, but could be anything . I'd certainly get another opinion if they didn't find anything

just read my carfax, says power steering reservoir was replaced as well as the ps pump.. so could this possibly be going bad again?? this was done at 6500 miles. car has 24k on it now. is there a way for the dealer to foresee this going bad by inspection? because i know the car won't make the noise when i take it to them..

just because parts are new doesnt mean they are good. I think the high rpms and quick reving nature of these engines kills the p/s pumps more than normal

not sure why the video blows on flickr. but i hope someone can at least attest to their car NOT making this noise.
My fathers 14' does NOT make this noise. SA told me that it is normal, and is the fan clutch. i will be trying another dealer tomorrow. car does not do this on cold start, but after it is fully warmed up, and sits for 3-5 hours it does it.
thanks for any input guys.

I will be very interested in knowing what the dealer end up doing to fix it.
My car has been doing the same buzzing sound too when cold for as long as I have it. It's more easy to hear inside a garage I noticed.
I thought it was normal after I heard a very similar sound in this guy review...
(from 4:15 to 4:55, very noticable when he zooms on the wheel at 4.35)

I could not get initial video to load but the one further down sounds like my car. It is funny because I got it at 13k miles and it has 15k on it now, I have noticed a tiny "whine" sound under load from the beginning. My AMG tech tried a few things like changing out the pulleys and the water pump but the sound is still there. He had their shop foreman listen to it as well who said that it actually was an acceptable sound that he hears quite commonly on these engines. I don't notice it like that in my ML63 and hoping that maybe I will run into another C63 at a local car show to get a listen of theirs for comparison sake. if anyone is in DC area and does Katie's or the South Riding one, PM me and maybe we can meet up.

With mine, I replaced the water pump--still have it. The car will make it under any application of power even with the ac system and fan OFF, so I don't think its the ac compressor in my case. I considered throwing on a new set of Weistec pulleys just to see if the different material gets rid of the sound. The drive belt is fine.

the second video posted, mine sounds a lot like that when i first start it up until warm...when i first got it i posted similar questions and many people had same experience.
If it never goes away when warm i'd be concerned, but either way it doesnt hurt to get it checked out esp. if under warranty

solekeeper,
How long does it make this noise after start up?
If it goes away 20 to 30 seconds after a cold start, then it may be the secondary air pump.
After you start it, rev the engine a bit and move the steering wheel to see if the pitch of the sound or the sound level changes.
I will start mine later and check for a similar sound for you.
Good luck in finding a fix
