Clear coat is peeling on mine. My research shows it to be not uncommon however most MB dealers will pretend that they have not heard of it before.
I looked up how to take them out and from memory it was not hard.
If you can smooth the surface, vinyl wrapping may be a solution.

I hadn't thought about them maybe being covered under warranty. I had a C300 that they were replaced on and I watched the process. They literally pop up. If you start up by the windshield you can start it easily. It's just held in with pressure clips. Be careful if you're putting it back on too. The clips bend very easily which will cause the trim to be loose. This happened to me so I had to bend the clips back in place.
