leaking coolant

my coolant level warning turned on. so i got coolant and filled it. and now the warning came back up. so i checked it and it was hella low, looked under my car and its dripping coolant...will this be an expensive fix? whats most likely the problem? my warranty just ran out in august. FML

Could be a cracked reservoir, a bad clamp, a popped hose, cracked rad ... Do you see any spray marks?

Yes, if there is coolant underneath the car, it's likely something not too crazy. If theirs no sign of where the coolant is actually going (i.e.: into the combustion chamber), things could get really ugly. The fact that you can see the coolant is a really good sign. Still, you should get it looked at asap and not drive it.

Dumb question, but are you sure it's coolant? Obviously the system is pressurized, so there should be some kind of spray pattern. Unless it's leaking after filling and you haven't started the car.

Low coolant without any sign of external leaks may = headbolt issue.

Not the case here...

2011 C63 PP
I had a similar issue 4 months ago. 2011 C63 PP. Dealer found leaking coolant after they did a service.

They ended up fixing this :

1) They found that the Front Timing Cover was problematic and had to be replaced.
Part : 156 010 24 33

2) They found another leak from the radiator as well while changing the Front Timing Cover.
Part : 204-500-31-03

It was fix under warranty so i'm not sure how much it would have cost me but I wouldn't be surprise if it was around 7000$ - 8000$ CAD (dealer price of course)

They had to take out the engine from the car to change the Front timing cover.

As other mentioned, if the coolant leak is visible, I don't think it's the headbolt.

you had headbolt issues on a 2011 or changed them by precaution?

That's interesting, I thought most of 2011 had the updated headbolt. Do you happen to know what engine number you had!?

Don't panic just yet... you might have totally unrelated issues. If they are supposed to finish by tomorrow, why not just call them and ask them what they are fixing?

my head bolt failed, and then was replaced by warranty. i believe early production 2011 models had the issues. some 2011's are safe. i called the shop yesterday, but couldn't hear him to well on the phone lol. all i heard was it'll be done today or tomorrow

Ho I see, so you were in the early 2011. mine is actually like 2000 engine number after they are supposed to have make the switch. since day one, I've always kind of been worried about what if the engine number where the switch happened isn't super exact and I do have the old one.

I had a chance to verify it when they took the engine out to fix the timing cover but blew it by calling them too late and they had already put the engine back in the car.

ho well.

Good luck with your repair

keep in mind I've mention what I think it would have cost me in my area. Everything cost more here in Canada so a 7000$ repair here is probably a 5000$ repair in US.

If you've already had the head bolt go out & replaced then I would guess it might not be the same expensive issue, so I would take comfort in knowing that! What mileage did your head bolt fail at?

Sub'd for updates. Hopefully something simple since it's an external leak.

Was it punctured? How does a 4y/o rad go bad?

In any event, glad it wasn't a too too serious matter.
