Yes I know mine sounds the same as the vid however your cold start video motor does not sound as the typical very cold start like in this vid where you can hear the secondary air injection kick on try what I said see if it makes noise still let me know. If it doesn't happy to see it got fixed. Hard to say what the exact problem was though seeing as how they replaced everything. Wondering if it really is just the chain tensioner bolt one guy said they did that to his and it fixed it

Ugh. Ok, I guess it's my turn for this now (at least I didn't start a new thread). Haven't driven the car in 4 or 5 weeks. Changed the oil and filter last week, and threw in new plugs today. Started the car last week after the oil change, got it up to temp, and didn't hear anything remotely like this. Started her up today after the plugs, and was greeted by this. (see below)
What's the consensus here - lifters or cam adjuster? Maybe just a stuck lifter? I planned on taking her out tomorrow morning for a brisk beating and cars and coffee, but now I'm not so sure. Ticking doesn't go away with revs. Maybe I just need to get the cobwebs out.

Yeah it's playing all the way through for me. Try again?
I'll repost if it's still not working, but it's playing fine for me in the above.
Thanks

Cool, thanks. Will keep an eye on it then. First time I've heard it, and it's LOUD. No wonder people flip out about it lol.

Could be bc your car sat for a while. Drive it around and see if it goes away. I also had that ticking and it ended up being bad tappets, which were replaced, FYI.

I still haven't heard any thing ever about any sort of failure from the adjuster noise.
That lifter noise is sending metal all through your engine. That is fact.

Mine literally just did this exact same thing. I went on a 3 week eurotrip. Came back started her up and same thing. It's the lifters they bleed down. First time it's happened for me, but I drive my car everyday max 2 -3 days with no driving. Like you said it is loud i was surprised. I was like ok that's what everyone talks about. I drove the car for 15 minutes. Parked it sound was gone. Been back for 2 weeks now sound has not come back. Drive it and it will go away. These cars don't like to sit I guess.

I have another thought. This happened immediately after I changed out my plugs. Like I said, everything sounded fine after I changed my oil last week. I wonder if I have a cracked coil, or a loose plug, or there's some other condition going on where the spark is grounding to the head or something. One of the coil harness plugs was difficult to get on that side, and maybe it's arcing or not connected right?
I'm going to go back in there tonight and make sure everything looks kosher, swap the coil packs around, and see what happens.

Switched the coils around. Problem solved. Add that to the list of "things that go tick".

Wow... Nice job. Glad you found the source. I was going to ask what oil you used and how much as over filling could also cause ticking. You have the SLS buckets with the p31 so you shouldn't be getting thar sound. The ticking is most commonly the lifters as everyone mentioned and the car sitting. But you changing the coil pack solved it. Glad your back to normal...

Could be a coincidence, but it's gone for now and running better than ever. I still do have some sort of minor tick, but it's not nearly as loud and no longer coming from the direction of the valve cover, but drivers side wheel well - I suspect that's just an exhaust leak. I was about a quart low on oil also after rechecking while hot (now about a half quart high FML), so could be the combination. Dropped my spark plug gap to just under .040 from the previous .045 and seems to run smoother too. Hit a massive pothole at speed during testing around 4am and banged up my Vorsteiner front drivers side pretty good though and tore up the tire sidewall. Just another thing to fix, sigh...
P31 have the SLS buckets yeah, but if this reappears I'll be considering the SLS BS ones for sure.

My bad...didn't understand you. I thought you meant your front lip. After owining my car for about 8 months I gouged my AMG wheels in a nasty Illinois pothole. It certainly not a Vornsteiner wheel but I was pretty upset. They were all mangled in the drivers side. They were unrepairable...Sorry man hope you can repair, if not replace the one wheel...

Decided to take a closer look today now that I'm not as annoyed about that ****ing pothole that I hit on the third-world roads we have around here. Actually not as bad as I remembered at 4am the other night lol. I'll probably just sand it down and fill it with JB Weld or something. I am 100% convinced that impact would have cracked a lesser rim.

the dealer ended up doing so much work on my car.changed all lifters and basically whole top end redone.
maybe is was just a stuck lifter from sitting?
