Launch issues
Hey guys. Im a newbie to the board. I took my 2014 c63 to the track for the first time tonight. I was a bit disappointed in my performance. I do take in to consideration that this was my first time there, the car is stock, and it was like 90 degrees out, but I felt my times weren't great. My best time was 8.8 at 83 mph. My biggest disappointment was the poor launch the car had. There is a lot of hesitation at takeoff that really hurts the time. How can I improve this? I already ordered an full IPE exhaust with headers and all. I was thinking of getting the Weistec tune and ROW boxes as well. Any help?

Depending on where your track is (what was the DA - altitude of track, temp, humidity), and what the quality of prep is, stock times are generally around 7.9@92mph in the 1/8th. Should be able to get a 1.9xx launch on street tires, 1.8xx with some practice and good prep.
Here are some threads which will help:

Is your traction control on?? If so turn it off
What mode are you using??
What tyre pressures are you using??
Do you have a LSD diff??
You need to elaborate more

Can you post the rest of the slip? R/T, 60 foot, etc?
There's a lot to get right when launching these, it's just just point and shoot.
With practice, tires, and a sticky track, you should be able to see much improvement ... and that temp is brutal.

Also, regardless of the launch, your trap mph should be pretty consistent. 82mph is WAY off. Did you keep your foot in it through the 1/8th or did you let off?
Go to http://www.dragtimes.com/da-density-...calculator.php and find out what your DA was at the track you ran at. Normalize the time and trap using their calculator and come back to us. Something's not right.

The 60' time will tell it all. I am sure it was well above 2.0.
My car is a ***** to hook up on street tires at the track. I think my best 60' was a 2.2 when I went last year

If you're going to go with some dedicated drag tires(or so-so street tires) why not grab the most grip you can....I ran M/T Street Comps as daily driver tires for about 6mo and they were 285/35/18s and they hooked WAY better...I am not lowered and these are the 18s not 19s but even though lots say a 285 will rub I NEVER had any rub issues...as a matter of fact it wasn't even close to rubbing...the 285 size gives you .75" more contact patch over the 265 series...the much stickier compound plus the extra section width REALLY does make a difference
And how did they wear in the 6 mo street driving ?

....and as for wear they held up awesome considering how hard I was on them....I prolly got 22k mi or so(iirc) out of them.... BUT....its not apples to apples in the wear dept....my first 2 sets of rears lasted 5500mi and 4800mi respectively... But when I put my 3rd set on the rear I had the rear alignment set up to 0 and that TOTALLY changed the way they wore without any noticeable difference in handling....changing the rear alignment was THE best mod I have done to my Merc bar none

They were actually fine in the corners, no issues at all....

However, the mileage warranty is keeping me from trying a different tire. Hard to beat getting a new set on the rear every 5 months for $100. Lool

Me experience so far is while they are nice highway tire, the grip they provide is only from about a 30 mph roll and up. From a standstill, 1st and part of 2nd gear is useless and this is on a stock non pp.

Good point, however I got better 60' times with my 19" 275 PSS's than I did with my 18" 285 Nitto DR's. Don't know why, just did.

There's no reason to run around on drag radials with a stock C63. Or even with a tune-only one. That's just silly. If you can't hook with PSS on a tuned C63, you're driving it wrong.

Mash pedal and go. A good tire will hook. PSS's have not hooked for me unless already rolling.

If all you do is burn up tires, than you either have to start driving with all the nannies on, or learn some throttle control. A stock C63 doesn't need drag radials.

There should be a tire that can be put on these cars where you can go WOT off idle and hook without going to a slick. That's why I was asking about drag radial. If these provide better grip than a PSS I might give them a try.
I could understand if I was doing 6k rpm launch like I did in my mustang but off idle shouldn't be a problem.
