Got both used about a year ago and both generally rare in my market and depreciated already. If i sell now, l’m looking at losing only around $6k USD. But if I let go of either, its unlikely I’d find a simiilar low mileage example for either also.
The thing is, I still like both cars so I’m unsure which to let go first. C63 507 is a very good muscle car and I sold my 2015 M4 for it. Plus it can used for DD duties. The 997 is a pure weekend car n feels much more mechanical but its probably the best value “supercar” in my market at this point. I cant think of any other model that drives that fast for its value now. I do hav a 991.2 cs too but the 997 feels dfferent enough to enjoy having 2 Porsches in the garage.
In the short run say 3 years from now, which do you think will be more valuable minus running costs? I’d probably do only 2-3k miles a year on either.
Which would you keep? I’m asking here as many will probably recommend keeping the Porsche. But its also over 2x the C63 507’s cost so letting go means I have more funds for future purchases.
Thanks for the feedback!
If you have a 991 I would sell the 997.2 and keep the C63 and have those extra funds to get another car.Originally Posted by JakeO

You're asking what's more cost effective, short run.
Get rid of the 507.
Low mileage 507 are still found here and there, in almost new condition and this drives down the value of the remaining ones.
The Porsche will depreciate slower even in the short run.
In general, as far as this thread, the problem is Mercedes tried to pre-regulate the future collector cars, first by creating the black series (and it didn't work, or not yet, because the marked reacts negatively to attempts at pre regulation "Oh I am creating this car to be a collectible from day one"), then by re creating the conditions that led to the Gullwing becoming a collectors car.
To me a collector's car has to be: important in the history of the brand and the cars, low production numbers for reasons other than the manufacturer setting it up like that and having some features no longer available. And some flaws/personality too.
The C63 won't be that.
However, I think that a new category of collectibles will emerge: a sort of working class collectibes: Your car won't triple in value in 10 years and won't become the next GTO. But it will stop depreciating at one point and never depreciate again once it gets to that point, provided it meets some conditions. The C63 has a shot at that, or if not maybe the C63 Black. And the C63 is an important car, a piece of history.
But it's a mass produced piece of history, sort of like the first Golf GTI. Having now an Original Golf GTI, you're in a good position for the future. But it needs to be Not Modified. It doesn't matter that it's just a Golf with a big engine. It's a GTI, the market now doesn't think it's a Golf anymore.
In 20 years, this could be the ... last ... "Golf GTI".

Ah, I was thinking along the line “working class” collectibles. Ok, I’m not going that far to realize appreciation (e.g SLS) but between the two, which do you think will depreciate less in the short term like 2-3 years? I generally drive my cars as often as Itime/opportunity allows (so no garage queens like a Ferrari) and any retained value is just a bonus for me.
I acquired the C63 507 Coupe for about half of a new C63S. While the 997.2 TTS cost twice the C, I got it for less than half of a new 991.2 TTS these days. For sports cars, as they are play things for me, I generally buy used. So far after flipping 5 sports cars in the last few years (including a Ferrari), I lost under $50k in depreciation.
They are both fun in their own way that is why its difficult which to let go first. The C has a bonus of being a capable sleeper DD car although I hav other cars for dedicated DD duties like SUV’s.
If not only for a lack of space, I’d probably keep both. What do you think gentlemen? 😀

Both are awesome cars. Since you have another Porsche, I would sell the Porsche, and buy some other toy.

Due to its limited production, in a few years it’ll be harder to find a 507 than it will be to find a Porsche. It still won’t make it a collectible, but it makes it more interesting.

Just a quick update, finally sold my 2011 Porsche since I already have a 991.2. The 997 TTS sure is faster but also felt much older. Plus NA engined cars are getting rarer since most newer performance cars come with turbos.
I also visited our MB dealer recently and while a new w205 is a big step up (although probably not as big as 997 vs 991), its another turbo powered car and cost over 2x new vs the price i got for the 507. And unlike the Porsche, the 507 looks much more low key and good for DD as well.
So will keep the 507 for a while and enjoy it more. Took it for a spin today and really enjoyed the big v8 sound especially since my 507 is fitted with akrapovic exhaust 😀

Way too many made in too many numbers to ever be a collectors rare car. I can maybe see the C63 BS holding at MSRP in 10 years or so but nothing crazy.

Black Series will definitely become a collector for it's rarity. 507 in due time with low miles(under 20k or less) and condition will have some collectability. Our regular C63 will be a enthusiast car not a collectable. If you look at the M3, only the 80s cars going up in value, especially the low mile and pristine vehicles. They also have a longer lineage and larger following. Just look at the collectible modern cars now in the past 20-30 years and not many have made it to collector status.

The whole collector car concept is in flux. Cars are heading to electric avenue-kids don't covet cars the way we did (remember the Lamborghini Countach?) and they are not interested in driving. Just buy what you love now and enjoy it. Maybe it wont loose value over time as much if you choose well but cars are going to be depreciating assets.

Man oh man how wrong all of you were, c63 507 sedans and coupes are fetching $40k-$50k. P31 c63’s are being sold for $30-$40k.

All assets are inflated. It’s what happens when $5T worth of liquidity is pumped into the economy. Read a book.

Clearly it’s because the actual cars themselves are becoming worth buying and keeping because they are the last of the na v8’s. Why are you so salty? Judging by your character you must love taking it up the a**!Originally Posted by BLKROKT

Everything has shot up in value. My winter beater is worth more than I paid for it 4 years ago. Or maybe Toyota Corolla's have become collectors cars too?Originally Posted by Atown96

Who the **** said anything about collectors? Majority of people doubted the c63 to retain value yet it has done better than most amgs. I own 2 dealerships on dfw area I know prices of cars like the back of my hand and even in auctions c63’s are getting a lot even with 2-3 accidents and 100,000 miles…Originally Posted by Mully78

Riiiighhhhhhttt. If you stepped outside of your cave you would know that there is low supply high demand for ALL cars. This is also affecting technology, chips, natural resources, stocks, etc.... It's not hard to to realize that prices will go up some due to the circumstances and covid.Originally Posted by Atown96

My mom’s toyota corolla, now with 100k miles, is nearly worth what we paid for it brand new 4 years ago. Just saying. Different times.

Are you guys getting offers from your local dealers? I'm getting one every few weeks. Grossly under value (even for a 'normal' market), just interesting as I've never seen anything like this before.

Yes, I keep getting letters for all three cars. It’s annoying at this point. Across the cars I have nearly $30k in “profits” if I was to sell. But what am I going to buy…. When everything is up. Just like the housing market.

So, couple years on, we have 4 cylinder c63…What’s peoples opinion now that it’s confirmed v8 won’t be back for c63. Do w204 & w205 go up in value now??

Yeah they’ll keep going up marginally because they’re a V8 and because the used car market is still short on supply. But with 80k+ having been produced, even with idiots crashing them and otherwise breaking them reducing the population they are still not a “collectors car”.You’re not going to see these auctioned off at Pebble Beach in 50 years for millions of dollars so just drive it and enjoy it.

Slightly off topic, but LegitStreetCars just bought a low mileage "barn find" unmodified DMC Delorean and he only paid around 30,000 for it and it's one of the rarest cars around with a lot of cultural impact. A pristine condition one gets about twice that. My opinion is if you're driving it, who cares what it's worth? I'm not gonna garage keep my car for another 30 years with the hope it's going to net me profit. Probably by then we're all going to be using alien technology to transport ourselves instantly or something.

He (Alex from Legit Streetcars) also recently acquired a low mileage Edition 507 that will be getting a supercharger and other goodies. Can't wait to see that video series...
