Leaving the keys in the car...
When my cars are in the garage, I leave the keys on the dash or cup holder. Some new proximity keys will run the battery down if you do this. Obviously, the key on mine isn't a proximity starter (key must be inserted) but is there still electronic communication that occurs?
Thanks in advance.

I do have the touch function which probably answers my question.
Also, let's just leave my insurance company on a "need to know basis". Actually, the only time I leave any car with the keys in it is when parking in my secured garage at home.
Thanks!

If you have the touch function on the door handles, you can go buy yourself a replacement button for the starter and you won't have to insert the key anymore. If you have the touch function, you have Keyless-Go.

I'm wondering how was the car sold with a keyless go installed and without the starter button? Did he lose the original button or was it a pre owned car?

This seems to happen more than you think it might. There have been several owners of 'new to them cars' that have figured this out one way or another. Seems that the buttons get lost, misplaced, forgotten or stolen. Once the button is gone it seems no one realizes the car has keyless go and it gets delivered as if it does not have this option.

If you get out of your car and the center cluster says "Dont forget your keys" I'd investigate if you have keyless go.
A member here was nice enough to send me a spare keyless button, I popped it in no coding, and it works just fine. Although, I'm pretty sure the buttons are relatively inexpensive anyway.

Anyway, the button is gone. I have the original sticker and it does, indeed show Keyless-Go as an option.
Are they available as an aftermarket piece?

There are some red CF ones that people buy, but those are expensive.
You can probably pick one up off ebay or amazon for pretty cheap if you're okay with just get the OEM silver button.

My friend had the car for about a year and only put around 1,000 mi. on it. The car was originally sold in (and, I assume, driven in) OH. My friend bought it from the local Maseratti dealer and it may well have been a trade in.
Anyway, the button is gone. I have the original sticker and it does, indeed show Keyless-Go as an option.

I use to leave my key in the cup holder too & found I was changing the battery more often, so now I don't & the battery lasts much longer, like it should.
