Eurocharged V5 Tune ($1,200)
MBH Headers & X-Pipe ($3,095 + $420)
There's your $5,000 Budget right there. You will have an increase of roughly 100HP+, bringing your 450 stock to around 550~.
Will be more than enough.
Additionally, depending on what wheels(s) you have, I would look into the following:
H&R Sport Springs / Coilovers -- Whatever fits your budget
Wider Tires -- If you have the 19" Multispokes, I would run 245/35/19 and 275/30/19. Help put that power to the ground.
Spacers -- Improve the looks, doesn't really help with performance. Should only be able to run like a 5MM~ or so with 245/275 setup without rubbing, but it looks better.
Limited Slip Differential -- Being able to put the power to the ground is good. Useless to have power without being able to put it down. WaveTrac or Quaife.
Hope that helps!

I would say a stock tranny at about 600 to 650 whp. Then is a matter of time before start to slip. A weistec bullet proof with valve body and TCU upgrade is rated at 1000 whp.
I have around 850 whp and been in drag racing and half mile events without any issues.

I know this has been beaten to death, but what do you find limiting? Do you just want power? Handling? Tail wagging stupidity (my personal favorite)?
My car is a basically your car with a few reasonably priced goodies. If you're not afraid of used parts and are patient, you can go pretty far with that budget. If you only want new and want the parts now, that $5K really won't go too far in our Benz-Tax ridden world.]
Eurocharged V5 - presently $730 new.
Wavetrac LSD - $1K + install. I had mine installed with new bearings and seals and some take off H&R Coilovers (that I picked up for $450 shipped) for $950 with a great alignment (had it done at a very track happy shop that does corner weighting and the like).
LSD & coilovers install - $2,500
Tires - Michelin PSS with rebuilt TPMS ~ $900
The total for these basic bolt ons came in a bit over $4K and totally transformed the car. Would I have been psyched to have another 60rwp? Sure! But I couldn't get a catted (need these where I live) installed for a reasonable price. In fact, I don't think you can get LT and a mid pipe shipped to you and installed + a tune for $5K.
These changes totally transformed this car and each made a real change to the dynamics and my enjoyment behind the wheel.
Oh, but I'm still going to go LT's and catted mid pipe later this Spring.
