Dedicated track wheels/tires setup question

I'm thinking of buying a set of 17 or 18" steelies (or w/e the c200/250/300/350 comes with stock) and putting a dedicated drag/track tires on them. I did the same thing on my STI, had a steelie set to run winter tires to drive in the snow. Anyone here have any experience or know if they will clear the brembo brakes?

The rears might, but the fronts almost certainly won't, and besides, the OEM rims from a non-C63 have different offsets that at best will prevent you from runnign the optimum tire sizes. And, I am assuming you're talking about drag racing here - not circuit. The weight of the steelies by itself would be a huge disadvantage around a track.

There is another member here who has a proper drag setup (IIRC he may be using two spares from a C63 for the fronts and a custom set of rims for the rears). I unfortunately don't remember his username, but with some luck you may be able to do a search for "drag tires" and find the relevant posts.

It really depends how serious you want to get.

For the rear you can go a few options:
-the right 17s will fit with nothing else
-the right 16s will fit with spacers (look for 16in 2000 CLK wheels with 20mm spacer, will need to cut the brake pad tab which does nothing except make it easier to pull out the pads for change)
-custom made 15s and you will need c200 brakes to make these fit

For the front you can go:
-Find 2nd space saver and run these - (haven't tried this as I couldn't find rubber to suit)
-Get custom made 18s that will fit with nothing else
-Get custom made 17s but I think you will need a spacer to make these work

If you want more info on any options let me know, happy to help.

Is it just me thinking this or not, but if you're going for a track setup wouldn't you want to go as light as possible? And aren't steelies not that?

A member here was just selling some 17'' enkei w/ drags which both looked good and were quite functional at the same time. Most likely lighter than steelies as well
