Steering Wheel Chrome Bubbling/Peeling?
Was just cleaning my new-to-me '12 today and noticed the chrome film on the steering wheel is peeling and bubbling along a few of the edges. Anyone else have this? Anyone have any luck getting it covered under warranty?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Not sure if it will be covered under warranty, but I had the same thing when I bought my car and just replaced it myself. The trim piece is separate from the steering wheel and just held in place with a few screws. Just need to remove the airbag for them to be accessible. Cost me about 80 bucks for the piece on ebay and 10 mins to do. Steering wheel looks brand new now.

EDIT: Never mind, found the same guy in Latvia I just bought new AMG mats from has it. Thanks again!

I'll admit "new steering wheel...Bonus!" was what ran through my mind when I saw the peeling chrome, considering the state of the Alcantara on my wheel. But I hit the Alcantara with some Sonax cleaner last night, and it's looking MUCH better. This weekend will be dedicated to a thorough interior detail, and I think it'll come back to looking close to new. So I don't mind the $38 to avoid the hassle of bringing it to the dealer.

When I brought mine in, I thought they were just going to replace the gray surround with a new plastic piece. Ended up with a new steering wheel with nice, new Alcantara. Since yours is a 2012 like mine, I would get all warranty work done before the 4 year manufacturer warranty is over.

I needed to get a new key fob coded (car only came with one), so I ended up making an appointment at the dealer and am having them look at the peeling trim, as well as my driver's seat height adjustment knob being "stuck". If all goes well, I'll end up with a new steering wheel AND a new driver's seat ; )

I am having the same issue. My C250 is 5 years old and the chrome on the steering is bubbling. Dealer said it not covered under warranty and will cost approx 320 dollars to fix it. Sucks

I just replaced mine, cost 60 bucks to fix and is relatively easy if you have any skills (does require disconnecting of battery and removal of airbag on steering wheel - both are easy) and then 2 screws to remove and a couple more to remove buttons and move over to new part. (would take maybe 30 minutes total to do it after being through it.
