Hey guys. Does anyone want/need a bellhousing adapter plate that will mate an M156 to a Tremec Magnum (TR6060) 6-speed manual gearbox? GM bolt pattern.
I'm commissioning one to be made for personal use, and it's no more work to have additional ones made at the same time. The adapter plate will be very similar to the one below, except with two additional holes at the bottom for the Magnum bellhousing. It's a CNC'd part that's a bit less than an inch thick, and it suits the front-sump M156 (not the rear sump one though).
It won't be cheap. But the price will depend on how many adapter plates are made (more is better). There's no money in this for me, just figured I'd offer it out to the community for anyone that wants to do a manual conversion.
What would be needed go swap in this manual?! Driveshaft, pedal box, master and slave cylinders and whatnot? How would the ecu react? I'd be interested, but I've never done an auto to manual swap without someone having done one before to layout the costs involved.
I have been thinking of doing the same - I need to find a use for my spare engine.
Do you have an indicative price?
Is the same company going to make you the flywheel with a dual-plate clutch offset?
Ecu is married to the tcu in tranny. Mechanically, it wouldn't be too hard, but programming wise, dunno if it's possible without a miracle worker for a tuner.

Down to learn more about this! Programming/management in particular.
For sure this adapter is just one piece of the manual conversion puzzle, but as anyone whose does this kind of stuff knows, it is arguably the most crucial and difficult one. I'll be swapping it into a early Benz, with a standalone, etc. I'll be doing my own flywheel since that's way easier than the adapter plate.
There probably won't be another run of these adapter plates (and none will be put on the shelf) so if you want one, PM me soon.
I'm looking to get an adapter plate to fit a BMW 6-speed E92 335i transmission to a C63 AMG M156 engine. Putting this in a '54 Ford F100 so the electronic for me is not an issue.

Is this the same getrag in the E46 M3? If so, why? It's so notchy, plus repairing it damn near impossible as only a few know how to open up one of those getrags.

I think this is a revised trans. It's the same as E9x M3 just without internal oil pump and external cooling.
Because the T-56 is too expensive and the TKO-600 simply isn't strong enoufg and can't shift properly above 6000rpm.
The BMW 5-speed is extremely popular to use in Scandinavia in muscle and drift cars. The transmission run at 5-700usd used, they shift perfectly at 9000rpm and they handle 1000ft/lbs of torque all day long. You don't do that with a Tremec that cost 3000usd plus shipping, plus tax etc. The TKOs barely handle the 600ft/lbs they're rated at.
The adapter is confirmed to fit M156 and M112/M113 engines, and it appears that M272/M273, M278/M157 also share this same bellhousing bolt pattern too. Along with the modern V12s, it seems.
I'm getting close to a point where I'll need to know how many adapters to make. PM me now if you're interested.
This is a good swap if you're taking the M156 and putting it into something older with a stand alone.
I wouldn't try this to do a manual conversion in a C63...big headache and compatability issues, let alone the driveshaft/pedals/throwout bearing/flexplate/clutch/crossmember.

Not sure what you would gain either
You would gain C63 in a manual award which is incredible. But for the money Ill keep looking for a GT350.
why would anyone want a manual these days? Lol...are people still wrapped up on "herp derp you arent a real man until you drive a stick!" ...driving a stick is probably one of the gayest things you can drive with it's like driving with a ***** in your hand that comes up from the center of the car. Paddles all day if the transmission is right and no, none of you can shift faster then a computer,

So here is where my manual argument lies. It is not about shifting faster than a computer etc. I only love manuals because of the fun factor and more control factor in my opinion. I mean, look man, we know manuals are the way of the past but they are fun as hell, more engaging, and at the end of the day I have passed guys at HPDE days in manual cars that were driving PDK cars, GTRs, Ferraris etc. I know that 99% of the time the dual clutch trans are better at shifting and faster but they are not as "engaging" thats all. I dont think only real men drive manual but I think real men can appreciate the fun factor.

true, i agree the engaging part is a lot more fun. It's just the daily driving in traffic that sucks about a manual especially in a big city
I do agree on the fact that a manual in traffic can be annoying. I have only had one true automatic car so far and got rid of that within 8 months. Then I had a 2008 M5 with SMG which was fun on highway but also annoying in traffic and now my C63 which is also fun on highway and better in traffic but only in C mode.
I think I just enjoy manual haha. But I do like my MCT speedshift trans in the C.

Manual all day, every day, if I had a choice!
Not because of the man factor, but because of the fun factor. Which means a lot more to me than "my transmission can shift faster than you in a manual"
