C63 AMG as a first car

Hey in like 2-4 months I'm getting a 2012 C63 AMG for my first car. And I would like to get as much info as I can before its bought. How much money would be saved if I did some of the maintenance my self because I was brought up with cars in my blood so I could figure out how to change oil and stuff like that. Also would you recommend it as a first car. Thanks

Would not recommend as first car, esp. if you're trying to save money. That said, it's probably the easiest, least harrowing of the AMGs to work on and maintain- and certainly better than a BMW.

Just remember: don't tune your daily.

A used c63 will never make sense to me as a first car unless your family is funding all your other life endeavors or you can afford an $80k (new) car's maintenance and cost of ownership ... And more if it's out of warranty

Good luck, sounds like it's a done deal and you're seeking reassurance

Welcome MrDuckBootz and early congrats on the potential purchase. Be sure to check out -https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...-stickies.html for everything you can think of asking.

No one is going to recommend this as a first time car. The same as no one would recommend it to a person just learning to drive, it is dangerous.

You can change your fluids and stuff yourself but you will need a Mityvac or something similar. If the car has a warranty, it is just easier to have a shop or dealer do the check ups, that way it is documented as well. There aren't too many major costs besides fuel / tires / mods (the biggest one).

OP, how young are you if you dont mind me asking?

like most 63 owners, I wouldnt recommend it as a first car. not to scare you but ive seen a few experienced and not so experienced drivers have accidents with this, knock on wood, and it is not a pretty sight. especially kids with heavy foot.

that said, its a very beautiful and powerful car and relatively easy to maintain. although could be a bit costly depending on how deep your pocket is.

but like PeterUbers said, looks like your heart is set and just seeking reassurance. goodluck and drive safe. remember to post pics when you get it.

+1 to what others have said...

If you do get it, get yourself signed up for a defensive driving and performance school. You don't want to be a statistic.

+1 to being easy to work on and remember you're buying a car that was once $65-$90k depending on options, color etc.

My previous E55 wasn't the hardest car I've worked on (older 911 Turbos are a nightmare), but the C63 is a walk in the park in comparison.

As for the C63 being your first car ... well ... yea, not the best idea. Having said that, I've seen mature, younger drivers in powerful cars than some of the idiots in their 30s. It all depends.

Good luck with whatever you decide, learn the car and its limits first.

Same question ^^

OP, curious to know how old you are if you don't mind. 450HP for a 16 year old is a lot. Not too say that there aren't mature 16 year olds that can handle it, but just something to think about.

There is no free lunch, guys. This one should be obvious- whenever you add load and stress to a given component you shorten its serviceable lifespan. That's not to say the car won't still be "reliable" in the sense that it might go 100,000 miles or whatever, but it won't have the kind of life that the stock car will.

We'll be the truth tellers.

When I was 16, anything that was "a bit much for a 16 year old" was taken as a challenge. LOL!!

My first car when I was 16 (in 2000) was a Forest Green 1994 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi. It was technically my parent's car at that point, but I was the sole driver. That thing was a big, heavy & supercharged

However, that's neither here nor there. If I could have driven an AMG Mercedes, there would not have been a single person on planet Earth that could have convinced me that it was "too much car". Dude, if you can drive a c63 at 16 years old, go for it. Just try to keep it shiny-side-up, don't kill yourself and make sure you get the panties out of your car before the next girl gets in

im not referring to OP in any way...

ive seen a lot of youngsters with 1.2l engine cars (assuming its their 1st car) who drives like their drving ferraris on a video game. weaving in and out of traffic, speeding, tailgating, overtaking on uncertain situations. not just putting their lives in danger but other motorists as well.

its not that some experienced adults dont do the same but imagine a 6.3l engine in the hands of an inexperienced driver. would you wanna be on the same road with that kid?

Some of you guys.... seriously, I don't know what planet you're from. Your first car should be something cheap and relatively slow that you can get banged up and dirty without caring about, because YOU'RE STILL LEARNING HOW TO DRIVE. Seriously, any kid who simply gets a C63 as their first car will never understand the value of working and saving for something nice. No wonder these younger generations are so spoiled and have this irrational sense of entitlement - I see them every day here in NYC and they ruin everything. Most need to get punched in the face a few times.

With that said, go ahead and ask daddy to get it. If we can get a bunch in the hands of new drivers, maybe after they're all wrecked it will increase the value of the ones left.

Agreed! You don't learn how to fly in a jet. You start in a Cessna or something and work your way up. And don't let people crash them. That makes our insurance go up! That's why insurance for my IS300 is almost as much as my C63.

Having seen many of these "I'm young and want a 400hp car threads before," I'm sure OP will return to tell about how he started his own business at age 8 and has his own money and can afford a nice car. Although usually it's a comparison thread, like M3 vs. C63 for first car. Poor form OP.

Get a cheap/normal car and learn to drive first then after a few years think about a AMG. Remember that regular maintence might be managable for you but if you need to replace parts it can empty bank accounts very quickly

Nah @realjones i def didn't start my own business at 8 lol. I'm 17 right now and getting my license July 1. And yeah I'm obviously not spending my own money on it. Ill admit there are gunna be times when I'm going fast but its not gunna be all the time cuz changing tires all the time would be a *****. My friends first whip was an M3 put he got too many tickets and his parents took it from him and bought him a dodge dart. His M3 sits in his driveway now, well sits there when he's not whipping it using the spare key that his parents don't know about LOL
