I'm not sure why mb put 255s on our cars but I'm thinking of just st going max wide I can go on the rears and maybe use a spacer combo for the front to compensate?
only reason i want to keep front stock size is I can't find a tire that has a 25.2 in rolling diameter like the stock rears and found a 285/30/18 that has the same rolling diameter as the stock setup.
say a 12-15mm spacer in front and an 8-10mm out back?

Your going to run a 285 on the stock 9 inch rear?? Yea going to feel squirmy. And then a 10mm spacer to take the stock rear et to 44 with the 285 yea I'm thinking def no. At least not without rubbing

I ran 285/35-18 Nitto drag radials on stock rims. No spacers. No rubbing. Was stock suspension height then.

I don't know, you can look up the specs at TireRack on section width and tread width and compare to other tires.

used it alot for my e55 to get a really tall tire to help put the power down and get it just right in the top of 3rd gear just hitting the end of the 1/4 mile to not shift.

Im running 275's on stock wheels and it is just right. I do feel it is a little more squirmy than 255's though. 265 must be a perfect size for a 9 inch wheel but I personally like a chunkier look.

Just saying that they fit for me. In answer to the original question.

I ran 285 M/T Street Comp rears on stock 18s for about a year and a half...no spacers...no rub...no issues And I didn't feel that they were any squirmier than stock...

275 MPSS on stock 18s with 2" drop works good no rubbing or anything. Barely a 5mm gap between tire and fender though.

Then, I took the spacers off, moved the 255s to the front and put 275s on the rear. Looked like a hot damn, gripped up much better too. Even though I had LSD when pulling out of one particular corner at my local track I always had to lay off a bit or I was just shredding. With the 275s it hooked up much better.
