C63 507 edition - opinions

Just got a c63 with a couple thousand miles, love the car but had no idea the 507 existed until today and I'm already obsessed with it. Saw one listed while I was looking at cars before but figured it was some modded POS. Ignorance is bliss. Now I'm looking at one that's over 4 hours away with 11k more miles for pretty much the same price I picked mine up. my question is, would it even be worth the hassle and extra mileage?

My opinion, it was basically an aesthetic exercise and gave a marketing something extra to work with the last year of the car, technically it is just a P31 car with cosmetics and a slightly better ECU tune.

You can flash a P31 car and have pretty much the same power, vents in the hood I feel rune the lines of the hood, so are a bit love it or hate it. You get the stripes on the side that I also don't think fit the car and you get different wheels that again may or may not be to your tastes.

I personally don't think it is worth the hassle, but if you the have to have a 507 feeling won't go away, then maybe it is worth the hassle.

As someone who has been obsessed with finding the "right" 507 coupe for months now, I will tell you YES! For me, the rims, hood, OEM tune, and alcantara interior set it off for me and make the price difference worth it. Others will tell you that you can mod any P31 (for the right price) to look and perform like a 507. If you found a 507 listed for a similar price as your p31/non-p31, I say go for it because either you overpaid for your p31/non-p31 OR the 507 is at a really good price. Decently equipped 507s with low mileage (<20k) seem to be going around the mid 50s at auction, so make sure you negotiate the price, even though it may already seem competitive.

As Rob mentioned above. If you have a Performance Pack Build already + LSD. You essentially have a 507 minus the hood vents.

Sedan 507 on the other hand are rare and may be worth the switch.

Just want to point out that 507s DO NOT come standard with LSD. Please be sure to check the VINs on the 507s you find, as you'd be surprised how many were built without the LSD (and even sometimes the lighting package...)!

Odd I believe Canadian 507's had LSD's standard on the build card.

Interesting! That may be the case for Canada. Can confirm this was not the case in the US.

I haggled a left over 507 down to about $10k off sticker new and was amazed to find it didn't have an LSD. Ended up passing on it and glad I did as I eventually found my present, perfect car. Patience!

Also, the MB LSD is better than nothing, but I preferred my Wavetrac.

^^ As a 507 owner, I'd say it's definitely worth the hassle.

And sure you can mod a P31, but golly, you can also mod a 507, which comes with a beautiful alcantara multi-colored interior, the BS hood, the forged black 19" wheels, you can go matte, etc. A 2012 with the development package is just as fast (stock), but sounds like you like the look, not just the stats. It's an outstanding car.

The LSD is not standard in the U.S. though -- on mine, it was a $2,000 option. I bought a Quaife (for less).

In Canada the packages are a little different and you get more stuff. I believe the later canadian p31 also came with the carbon interior trim.

To me if you already have a facelift p31 C63 I don't see a point in spending more to get the 507.

US LSD was always an option, a lot of other countries got the LSD in the P31 and 507 packs, should have come in the US package at the price also.

Ok so after 30 yr of MB cars this is the first C63 and you guys have me stumped.
What is LSD besides a neat drug of the 60's? Limited Slip Diff?

Thats right Alex. Ltd slip differential.

Comes standard with 507 and P31 packages in Canada, optional in the States. There are few other differences between cars in the two countries as well. We get the folding mirrors for example.

Their base model is cheaper as a result, but being in the Land of Overseas Cash we never see a totally base model here anyways.

2014 C63 Edition 507 Sedan
I was kind of in your shoes during my original quest for a C63 (ie. looked only at "standard" versions w/P31). However, when I came across my 507 sedan, I knew right away it was the version I wanted (eventhough, I knew it was essentially a MB marketing ploy for the model's last year). For me, the subtle differences in rims, hood, powertrain tune, alcantara interior trim and all OEM was enough to make it a no brainer.

Correct, I just looked at my build sheet and it's listed as option code 471

I think it comes down to this....

Are you a modder? If so, you are probably going to want to throw a tune etc in to your car, change rims and so on, at which point you have negated some of the 507s benefits, so don't bother.

Are you the kind of guy to just drive it stock? Well, then, get the 507 cos thats the thickest and most factory powerful version you will get.

^^ The 507 is great stock, but you can have the best of both worlds.

I've added a EC v5 tune, Quaife LSD, ROW boxes, Mode Carbon boot lid spoiler and Lufstrom diffuser. whp and torque were good to begin with and are better now. Enjoy the car you want.

^^Totally, I just meant in terms of the OPs situation, and whether it was worthwhile to make that trade or not.

I knowingly bought a 507 that did not have the LSD because you can have a Wavetrac installed for less than the factory option. Use the fact that it does not have a LSD to negotiate a better price...

GO 507! You will not regret it!

I come at this question a bit differently. If you're planning to mod heavily, I would get the 507 or a P31 for the lighter forged internals. Lighter reciprocating mass and stronger pistons crank rods gives me more comfort when modding. The OEM tune itself is irrelevant.

If you plan to leave it stock, or lightly mod, it's a toss-up and comes down mostly to aesthetics IMO. An EC tune gets you to the 507hp figure and beyond.

Same brakes as the P31 I think. 2 piece rotor etc. Never seen a different part number for 507. RacingBrake has looked at the calipers as well.
