I agree back in April the MB dealership could not fix issue. I dropped it off today again...dealership calls me up and asks if tech can take car home to replicate the issue - I said no.

Hopefully they can resolve tomorrow as it is a safety issue not to mention having a few cocktails at nifht and then driving home with headlights flicker don't mix.

If the STAR system can't point directly to the problem those AMG techs are pretty much useless.

The ballast is a crucial element in an HID system. The output connection is likely the culprit so that's where I would start.

Not sure why not. Would they give you a car to drive? Seems to me they are trying.

Not sure I agree to a blanket condemnation of them all. I have had the odd dummy but many are pretty sharp and also not so proud to ask the factory for help.
My current guy is fabulous. Never assumes. Never quits. Chases it until it is fixed.
That said, the use of a bi Xenon in an AMG is not a special thing.
My 2001 SLK, 2003 E, the 2009 E the 2011 E, the 2014 SLK and 2015 CLA45 AMG also had them. There are few mysteries here. I bet a loose connection or a corroded connector are the issue.

I agree that it's likely the ballast, but it's rude to say that AMG techs are useless without guidance from a Star system.

Put yourself in their shoes, if the problem is intermittent and the tech is unable to reproduce it, how can he properly recommend a fix? Should he guess and have you spend 400 dollars on a "maybe" fix? Sometimes you have to let the problem play out or else you'll just be throwing parts at it.

Is it both or just one? If it's both, is it when the switch is in auto or when i's in on? I drive around with my fog lights on so the car doesn't look dumb when it tries to light up the inside fog light during a turn. Occassionally they will flicker and the fogs stay on. I cycle the switch and it usually goes away. I think my switch may be worn or something.

I've had after market HID bulbs do this on warm up or cold days. So it could be a dying bulb or ballast as well.

Looks like I touched some feels...

Let me rephrase. The AMG techs at my local dealership are useless AND do sloppy work.

This is not an assumption. Legit data collected from my own experience and experience from other sources.

Well they fixed the issue today they replaced the switch. They could see the car had 80 fault codes meaning 80 x my headlights went out or flickered.

This is a fairly common issue and IIRC the headlight switch has been upgraded and carries a diff part # than the original. I replaced mine a year ago for the same reason. Very easy to change out...here's a good DIY
