Swapping Heads, cams, intake.. interesting read
I found this thread on the SVT fourm about engine mods to a C63. Coming from a muscle car background its something that I had been thinking about for awhile but had not seen much here. Swapping heads, cams, intake are basic mods done to most V-8 platforms to make big HP and tq. Hope you enjoy the read.

Looking at the posted time slips on this thread it is dead even with what my 69 Camaro ran.. same 60' ft same 1/8 .. pretty cool.

Just MHP. This site is littered with their stuff. If you did a search for any of the terms you mentioned, you would find those same pictures here.

Heads for this car are so expensive. I think the MHP heads were like $8,000. The Weistec heads (without core swap) are $13,600!

I thought the SLS heads/cams needed fhe SLS intake to make power. Look up Dads C63. He was pretty much a pioneer in developing mods for this car. Also, freefall's track build is about as far as anyone has gone NA recently and he has the SLS intake. He also mentioned that the SLS intake shifted the powerband up higher. If you want power in the M156, headers/tune/ROW boxes is your best bet. After that....boost unless you want to remain NA with no regard for cost.

That may be the case I am still kind of new to the MB stuff but based on my experience with building V-8s I know they all respond to the same type of mods.. The more air and fuel you get in and out the more power it makes.. The intake manifold on the 6.2 looks very similar to an LS style and those motors respond very well to cam changes, port polish heads, and installing a free flowing intake and exhaust.. In theory the M156 should be similar.. As far as moving the power band up into the higher RPM band that looks like it would be the case with the Velocity stack style runners in the SLS. I wonder if the same intake is used on the E63 or S63 and the C63 ??
Its really too bad there is not as many after market companies to make performance parts for the 63 like there are for the LS market.. As long as there are guys willing to pay 18k for a blower and 13k for a set of heads then there is no reason for the price to come down.

Even companies that make parts for LS motors and our cars give us a pretty heavy tax. For example, a set of catted headers for a C7 ZO6 from ARH is like $1800. Same company for our cars, expect $3500.

I don't disagree with any of this. I'm simply bringing money into the equation. And the M156 in the C/E/S/CL/CLS is all pretty much the same. Same intake manifold. Everything. I literally had my hood open next to an E63 this morning at cars and coffee and they looked the same.

I run custom race ported heads in my 63. Had em in now for over a year. (daily driven too)
The one thing that's awesome is the change of tone & sound. Doesn't sound one bit like a 63 or m156 engine.
When people hear my car in person the 1st thing they ask is it supercharged. Lol!
