I asked him when we met in person and he said that they were definitely still good, he "just" took them off his car because he sold it. Due to a confluence of factors, I only quickly looked at one wheel (they were also all wrapped up and he was reluctant to open them). I had no reason to doubt his claims, which is definitely 100% my fault.

Lesson learned.

In other news, I got a new wheel lock key (original is likely still with PO) and some floor mats. Who knew a simple key could cost $60? Car is being detailed as we speak. I should have it plated tomorrow. It's about bloody time.

Now wait a sec here.....

You came to my house and inspected all 4 wheels and tires. We actually hung out for an hour. I even took you for a ride in my 2016.

I was reluctant to open them? They just had wheel bags on them and i opened them all up for you.

I never told you i "just took" them off the car because i explicitly told you i sold the car 4 years ago and the wheels were just sitting in my garage and i was clearing out space. The selling post explicitly states "I've had these in storage for a while and dont have the space or reason to keep."

You visually inspected all four wheels and tires. This happened at the beginning of January. Now 2 months later you post pics of dirty wheels and mismatched tires? And you're calling me out?

You bought used parts - you inspected them - you paid for them - and now 2 months later you have an issue?

I think you should call yourself out. You've made up a whole load of BS here.

You may have read the title of the thread, or more likely not. I'm fixing up this car. I'm only now trying to put it on the road, hence the wait. I had no reason to doubt the veracity of your fs thread, especially after your show of hospitality and the quality of your garage.

As such, I definitely did not inspect them before buying--nobody in their right mind would have paid that amount of money knowing the true state of what you sold. I think you knew that, which is why they were in Porsche wrappers that were stuck closed.

You unloaded your junk on a sucker--well done.

They were not in Porsche wrappers. They were in Canadian Tire Wheel bags that have a pull string. Product link below. You seem to making alot of things up here.

I opened all of them and showed you each wheel. We then hung out and talked about your BMW transmission conversion and went for a spin in my 2016 C63s, to show you how good the new tranny's are.

You're very creative in re-telling the events.

Ok Miro, so we can discuss the details ad nauseam. Are you denying that the the tires that you sold me are old, mismatched and nowhere near 80% tread?

callmiro: You claim all Michelin Pilot Alpin Sports when they left your hands?

So, in the 2 month span it appears the tires were swapped and or used.

tantumaude: coud above have happened without your knowledge? Or are both of you lying to each other?

Fair question. The tires sat in the bags/wrappers/covers whatever they are called (they have a picture of a 911 on them, hence my assumption that they were Porsche--sorry if I'm wrong) for about two months in my garage while I was waiting to get the car back from the bodyshop where it was being repaired (the process of which is, after all, the subject of this thread). At no point did I open them up--I simply didn't need to. As I stated above, I had no reason to believe they weren't as advertised.

I finally opened them on Saturday, as the car was ready to be delivered (on MPSS tires) and we were expecting snow, so I wanted to put them on. It's only at that point that I realised what had happened.

I messaged Miro at that point to express my disappointment. Again, I wrote, it's my fault for buying these without looking at more than one. I haven't asked for money or any other compensation, I just want the truth to be known about an unscrupulous seller.

To suggest that I would take good tires off, plastidip and then partially strip and then finally source and install bad tires, if that's what callmiro is implying, is completely absurd.

Completely ignoring the rim condition to focus on one issue at a time.

callmiro: Your FS thread specified "Michelin Pilot Alpin Sports" & "Tread is 80%...very little wear.". Since no other tires were mentioned, was it safe to assume this was true for all 4? Is that what you're claiming was sold?

One of these guys has been around for 3 months and has about 40 posts. The other guy has been around for 8 years and has about 2,500 posts. If that matters at all.

Also, the typical "shady seller" does not invite you over to his house, have an hour conversation with you and then take you for a ride in his new C63s.

I am sorry Tantum but you were at his house and had the opportunity to take each wheel and tire out of the bag to inspect them. You had an hour conversation where you could have asked as many questions as you wanted about the wheel and tire setup. Ultimately, if they were not what you were looking for, you had the option of walking away from the deal. But you paid the man, took the goods and now (two months later) you are slandering his name on here as if he somehow ripped you off.

This jury is ruling in favor of Callmiro and you should quit while you're ahead, Tantum. You have no one to blame but yourself.

Appreciate that. I've stated that the fault is mine for not thoroughly inspecting them in what, 4 separate posts now? But I disagree that I'm slandering. I'm calling out a dishonest seller, whose sudden silence I think speak volumes.

Your assumptions indicate you haven't read the facts. Let them both answer the factual questions before jumping to conclusions (still waiting on callmiro to reply).

Let us put this dispute on the back burner for a moment. I just picked up the car from an oil change and alignment, drove it around to warm up and went for a spin. I'm quite impressed! The immediacy of the power delivery is astounding. I am especially impressed with the change in transmission behaviour from C to S and M modes. The blips on downshifts are a nice touch. Definitely needs wider rear tires, and why would anyone think placing the cruise control and wiper/turn stalks so close together is a good idea?

Good car, this.

My sudden silence is because i fu<ken work during the day and usually don't participate in online hissy-fits.

There may have been 1 replacement tire on one of the wheels but i cant remember as they've been sitting in my garage for 4 years.

You looked at all 4 tires and were good with them. You bought them. You paid $200/wheel and $100 for all four tires.

These were not shipped to you. You came to my house and inspected them and bought them. Nothing unscrupulous about that.

Anything else you don't remember about these? Have a look a few posts up. There are some pictures that may jog your memory...believe me, there is no way I nor any sane person would have paid you $900 for that.

In fact, I paid you $900 for a set of four wheels with four Michelin Pilot Alpin tires with 80% tread. I freely admitted that I didn't look at any more than one of the four and got burned. My bad.

Let's put this simply: were the tires that you sold me on those wheels
a) all Michelin Pilot Alpin?
b) all at 80% tread?

Because that's what was advertised.

Honestly, I don't want money or anything else from you. I've already bought replacement tires and I'm going to peel the dip and make these wheels into what my $900 supposedly purchased. Then I'm going to fix all the curb rash and run them as nice winter wheels.

An apology would be nice, though I don't expect it.

I gotta admit, it's pretty hard to find fault with this.

Except that the advertisement was wrong about the tires. If they had shipped sight unseen vs being picked up in person, the point is that when they were unwrapped, wherever that was, that the tires were not as advertised.

More so, if the seller "did not remember" as bolded above, they should not have been advertised as a set of Michelin's with 80%+ tread.

I don't remember so I just advertised them this way is not an excuse.

Which one is the truth?

Were all 4 inspected or not?

No, we opened the top of one wheel bag/cover/wrap thing, which was one of the fronts, either the Pilot Alpin or the Hankook as I recall it having at least some tread. I don't recall seeing the wheel face, at least not the whole thing. Both Miro and I loaded them into my car after that. It was dark and cold, andI had asked enough questions in his FS thread to be satisfied that they would meet my needs.

Again though, I can't blame him for my not looking.

That said, there is no way I would have paid anywhere near $900 had I actually looked at them though. Truth be told, I don't think I would even have made an offer.
