2012 Mercedes C63 AMG S
I am a new (1 week so far) owner of a 2012 C63 AMG S, so my experience with the car is still very limited, but I have found that if your travel route supports driving at 53 to 55 mph, you CAN get pretty good mpg. My best so far is 25.4 mpg indicated on the computer dash display, but it is 5 to 5.5% optimistic when compared to actual miles driven divided by actual fillup liters/gallons used. So, that 25.4 is actually about 24.1 mpg (U.S. gallon).
This has been repetitively obtained on a 15 mile 4-lane highway route on Vancouver Island, in topography that is quite hilly, with a handful of traffic lights that sometimes require me to at least slow down and reaccelerate, or less frequently, to actually stop and then accelerate from a dead stop.
So, they key to decent mpg seems to be to keep the speed lower, and to keep the car in "Comfort" mode. The comfort mode thing is because at least on the route that I am driving, if I put the car into "Sport", it won't engage 7th gear but rather stays in 6th. You only notice this when you look at the tachometer and realize the revs are higher than they should be in 7th gear.
