Hey guys,
I sold my C300 about a year ago and now my little brother wants a C63. His budget his around $25k. We found one below; just wanted to get your guys input on the car and what else should we look for when shopping for a C63

Head bolts. The achilles heel of the early 63 motors

C63 is pretty reliable overall, but any of the VIN's with the old headbolts will likely fail eventually, if I was looking at anything with the potential issue, I would get the headbolts done before I drove it and just never have to worry about it, so add that to the price of anything you are looking at - 3-5k.

So to give you more advise, you can buy that 2008 for 24k and then put the money into it and be at 27-30k or you can just buy a 2011 without the issue same miles, for the same or less money at the end of the day.

A few early 2011's still need headbolts, the majority of 2011's do not, so you need to have the VIN check on here to see if it is in our out of the range or you need to find the serial number on the motor and ensure the last 5 digits are higher than this 60658

Curious what percentage of all of the c63s in the applicable vin range for head bolt issues actually have had head bolt issues

Someone should post that question on private lounge and ask them why the hell mercedes won't cover it

It would certainly be interesting to know and to determine what was different in those cars than others that don't fail.

Whatever the number currently is, as the cars age the % will increase. It's a fact. Nothing can be done to stop the corrosion, and the defective material and design will succumb sooner or later.
