How can you tell if your car has been mapped?
Hi guys,
I just picked up my first C63 (2013) and it shifts, I mean really shifts, I have driven a few in the past and they were not as quick as this I am sure.
There are no visible signs that it has been "played with" secondary cats are still there, no pops and bangs on down shifts, although it does sound epic when going through a tunnel.
I am tempted to re-map it in a few months once the warranty runs out, but i suspect it may have already been remapped? is there any way of checking shy of plugging into the ODB port and to be honest I have no idea what I would be looking for anyway?
cheers

My new-to-me 2012 c63 has a little popping and gargling, which I want to make louder, after downshifting from 3 > 2 or 2 > 1 at slightly higher RPM, and I'm loving it. Is this something that comes stock?

Sounds like you have the prototype pops and barks tune that came on some of the early 2012's

One was a while ago and that was pre MCT, the other only a few weeks ago was a 2012 MCT. I took it for a test drive and managed to go from a standing start in 1st, through 2nd, 3rd and into 4th in S+ before I had to break for a bend. It was quick just didn't feel as quick as this. Trust me I am not complaining, just wondered if there is any way of telling if it has been mapped before.
I cant realistically test the 155mph limiter these days on UK roads, too many speed cameras and police around and now it is the summer, random wildlife running in front of you. I nearly hit a deer the other night
Mine very occasionally pops on downshifts and does the blip on upshifts when in S+ I know after doing some reading that a remap typically makes more pops and bangs than standard and removing the secondary cats really adds to this. I am not sure the wife will appreciate it though, the odd time she will be driving the C63.
I have 6 months warranty left, when its run out I may well go for a remap with or without the secondary cats cut out.

Get Torque for Android and an ELM327 adapter. Plug it into the OBDII port.
Then read the Emissions Readiness status.
If you've got a remap, the chances are that the O2 sensor readiness will be "not ready" or "unavailable".
