interesting to share: diy iWC clock on W204
here is the story: my friend bought new w205 amg and show off the IWC clock - yes i am really envious on that so i have to do something.
it comes not only as a crazy idea but also theory which based on some electrical wiring diagram that i found in WIS.
our car (w204), actually shared many components from other mercedes cars like e class and slk class, BUT analog clock is one of the missed parts. so i cant help thinking, what if i bought the clock from 172 and do the same wiring on w204?
in the 212/172 WIS wiring diagram, the analog clock wiring is fairly simple. 3 wires which include power cord and Lin data cord from front SAM and 1 negative cord.
the front SAM is actually the same(w204 and R172). so connection is very straight forward. buy SLK wires, clock and DIY a grill to fit the clock inside, use vediamo to code front SAM, done.
and here is the outcome. lighting and function well.

thx, you can buy a SL63/SLK55 dash grill and refabricate it with OEM W204 dash. and you need to take out the center speaker from the car (under the dash grill) or your clock will not fit well
to some people it will be a problem since you will lose:
1) parking sensor
2) center speaker
but my BS bumper is without parking sensor fitting and i am not a fan of our OEM speaker but more prefer the exhaust sound...

That's really interesting, thanks for sharing. I recently did something similar, but I like Tudor watches and didn't want to bother with things like wiring and upholstery. I know, it practically looks factory You can even keep using the NAV and radio normally. The best part is that it only cost $3. If anyone wants me to post the DIY, just let me know.

This is just hilarious, perfect how you actually took the time to tape the watch to the dash and took a picture.
I thought of doing something similar after reading his post but than I scrolled down and you stole the show!!

I designed the mount so the clock can be modular, and go on my wrist when I'm not in the car. So it was cheap when you look at it that way.

Ooooo gotcha :P
Theoretically speaking you bring up another point. You could do what the OP did above with a regular watch (removing the straps obv) no need to wire at all since watch batteries last a while. Blend it with the wrap!

zcct04 was on the right track, but there is always a 'next level'.
I may put together a group buy if there's enough interest, but with brands like IWC and MB involved this won't be a low budget piece.
Plus, its a handcrafted item so no promises re delivery time. This isn't my job or anything, it would just be a service for my fellow members.

Us retired old farts don't need no damned clock! Going fast is all we need!
(Dodged a bullet last weekend. For those that know the Pat Bay highway north of Sidney the Integrated Road Safety unit was picking them off like flies going to the ferry which is one of my routes home. Got a flash from a good Samaritan heading south so the four catchers missed me - barely! Would have been expensive!)

Alex, I had a buddy get popped there on the way to the ferry last Thanksgiving in his RS5, trying to make the last boat. They clocked him a 45kmh over the limit and showed him no mercy and impounded his car (here in BC 40kmh over the limit aka 25mph, they can impound your car for a week). He figures that between tow costs, impound, another trip back to the island to get it, car rental for a week, penalty points etc he was out close to 5 grand.
So yes, count yourself lucky.

Count me in on the group buy as well. Can I substitute a Casio and use BLKROKT's custom tape mod ?

OP has taken a merciless ribbing here but personally at the auto shows I've liked every analog clock I've seen in various cars whether dash-, instrument panel- or center stack-mounted. Nice job with it.
Plus, KOSMOS' car is so badass he gets a pass from me even if I didn't like the clock.

I didnt ask him to break it down for me lol, but you can see how quickly a ticket plus points plus rental plus travel plus tow etc would break down. Thats a lot of dosh for speeding in an area where it would be very easy to do 40 over, especially since most vehicles around you would be travelling similar speeds. Notorious speed trap area, not just cos people are rushing for a ferry but also cos the limit could easily be higher. But then they wouldnt make as much money.
