Jim,
The blocking plate doesn't seem to have done anything at all for my FL coupe. However, ambient temp here is almost always over 80-82F. Is there a good theory about why it's ineffective at higher ambient temps?

No idea. I've just noticed that it's around that temp when it stops working.

Mine has been creeping up lately. Would normally see 98-101°C just puttering about in M and 105-107°C when getting on it here and there around town.

I've been noticing 103-109°C lately and 111-114°C when romping on it without it even being hot outside. Maybe sensor related, fan issue? I have an oil change (calculated by time) due in a few weeks. Or the b¡tch is getting ready to grenade lol.

111°C not even hot out. It's higher than I've been used to. No other changes.

Thats still good compared to mine and mine is normal compared to other UK cars which we have worse/cooler weather! 102-107c normal driving in C, S+ giving it some can be between 112-118c and M between 118-124c

I know i have a land yacht but I've never seen temps go higher than 103c even under hard throttle here in fl summers. My oil change takes 11 qts though, i run two through the motor and drain all oil out of the oil cooler so there is nothing but fresh oil in the motor. OCD i know but i drive it hard. I am usually around 89-95, rare i hit over 100 even with 90-100 degree weather. I never use manual so I'm always in sport.

this is incredible. You have PFL or Fl model? What oil you run?

Yes, within range for what others see but I've owned this car 6 years and it's not the normal range for what I'm used to seeing.

Could just be sensor tolerances. Maybe I'll change mine for sh¡ts and giggles.

This seems to be an issue with all vehicles with the M156. Comparing to the competition like M vehicles, the oil temperature in those never goes above 105-110 maybe 115 no matter how much you push it. With our AMGs it touches 130 in a fraction of the time.

Now it may not be the point where oil breaks down, but Id rather not have my oil almost at the heat limit most of the time.

I cant enjoy manual mode because the temperature shoots up so quick.

The cooling kit is expensive, and for my CLS it wouldn't fit.

A company called Vaeth, makes oil cooler upgrades which fit into the place of the stock central oil cooler. They have 2-3 versions of it depending on how much larger you want.

This is something I am ordering, and costs less than half of the 44O package.

Id suggest any other owner of an AMG with an M156 check this out.

Maybe once I get it in a few weeks I can update with observations as to how the temperature is.

This is great news. Please keep us updated.

I am trying the Radiator block off method soon. Some users here have posted good experiences with it. I forgot the exact number, but their oil temps dropped 5-10 degrees.

Anyone tried heat wrapping the intake?

Maybe this is in my head, but does anyone notice any oil temp change running 0W40 vs 5W40?

Is it a complete bolt in solution?
Please post some pics once you receive the parts, and after the Install.

I think the 5w might be running a hair cooler for me, but need a trackday to confirm. Don't know if that means the car is running cooler, or the oil isn't extracting as much heat. Will try to remember to keep an eye on the water temp too, maybe that will show something.

With how hot our cars tend to run oil, I don't think I'd mind trading off a bit higher coolant temp for lower oil temp anyway.

For me as well. Usually I see 205-217 when running 5w consistent on 75-80 degrees day. With 0w, I see 221-231 and temp spike up quicker on aggressive driving.

Is there any difference in oil consumption rate between the 0w and 5w?

Changed the oil this weekend. I got the car in October in DC, put <3000 miles on it between October and July. Had it shipped out to SF last week. I have no idea on what brand or weight of oil was in the car or how many miles. Consistently ran right at 210 -215 prior to the oil change. Pulled out 8 liters of oil. Filled it with 8 liters of lubrimoly 5-40 of proper MB spec. Temps today on my 70 mile commute in 90 degree weather never went over 200 degrees. I'm amazed that new oil can drop oil temps that much. Anyone else see this behavior?

Plus prior to oil change it would take about 2 miles of driving to get the oil temp readout to stop flashing. Today it took almost 7 miles before it consistently stayed over 176F.

Would love to know the basis for 176F or above oil temp being "ok".

Oil temp never getting above 200 on a 70mi commute is indicative of some sort of problem. That is not normal at all.

Been noticing my engine oil temp gets a bit hot. Starting it up and idling it will get to around 102 - 105c. Driving normally in C mode stays around 105c - 108c. Driving in Manual with upshifts at 4k+ and downshifts at 3-4k gets the oil temp to 120c or over. Basically cruising around with 3k rpm and some heavy feet results in 115-120c. Is this normal? I live in Toronto and the weather is usually 20-25c when I drive.

Recently did oil change and put in 10L of Mobil1 0w40, which didnt help the oil temp go down. New oil filter, KN filters, and charcoal delete. Straight piped cats with EC v6. No mods.

Also, don't know if this is related but the mechanic pulled stored codes since they were last cleared. This code was stored:

"P1061 (1061) The load limit is active."

Did lots of searching and can't find anything on this.
Oil temp should be OK.
Take a peek at this.

BLKROKT, if I remembered correctly, you have Weistec transmission pan too with larger capacity, do you think it helped with maintaining/preserving the transmission from overheading at the track?

Is there a link on their website? as when I looked I could find nothing like that or prices.

I guess I could put the old oil in and see if that makes the temp go back up ;-) Your statement makes it seem something broke, the oil t-stat? Not sure how clean oil could cause a t-stat to go bad....

Compared to my CTS-V that runs at 240F I thought 212 was cool. 200 does seem cool but then my M3 racecar used to run at 190-200 while running in anger. And my IO-360 runs at 170F which is an air cooled engine.

I don't care what you do now or what your previous cars did. But what you're saying isn't even possible (under 200F oil temp for the duration of a 70mi commute in 90F weather). Either you're confused and looking at water temp, or your oil temp sender is broken. It can only really be one of the two. I have every cooling mod, upgraded capacity and upgraded oil radiator you can think of, and the lowest my oil temp sits at consistently is about 210-215. And that's when it's either just barely warmed up or highway cruising.

An oil change isn't magically going to make your oil run cooler than any C63 has ever. And just to be clear, I'm not 'jealous' of your oil temp. I'm telling you that it's not even possible.

Yeah I think the extra fluid and cooling fins help, but I'd still like to install a temp sensor to be sure. My gut tells me that it still gets too hot, as shifts get a little funky still at the end of a long session in hot weather. Upgraded trans cooler is on my list.

What's in the 44O package? Is it oil and trans cooler? You need more? I'm not surprised, just curious. The oil temps in this car are higher than I'm used to for sure, especially on the street. My old car needed the oil cooler covered in the winter or temps wouldn't reach 160 on the street in 50 degree weather (doesn't get that cold here in Vegas). That was too cold to work well so now it seems I have the opposite challenge.

It's just improved oil coolers - front and auxiliary.

The cooling package includes the following changes:
• larger front oil cooler lying
• larger wheel arch cooler
• custom air guides
• Larger air intakes in the underbody paneling and wheel arch right
• Custom oil lines for engine and gearbox oil

Ah I see, for some reason I was under the impression that the wheel arch cooler was for the trans.
