It could be that not many with aftermarket converters were worried about reading converter temperature, so there is no knowledge base of what happens to the calculated temperature reading, when you change converter type from the normal ceramic to the metal substrate
OP this is good... Before doing anything else get one of these and test for yourself the before and after temps. You've got me curious because not everything is adding up here.

Ive decided to not ceramic coat it. Did some "research" and supposedly these SS tubes are not conductive enough to warrant the additional coating.

My next question is: Since these ship with straight mid pipes to the resonator, which I have alraedy deleted... Should I just run straight pipes all the way to the muffler? Is X Pipe mandatory here? Or can I get away with telling the installer to weld an H in the FI 3" midpipes?

I can practically guarantee you that anyone who has installed LTH on their C63 without coating them first, once they're on wishes that they had done so (assuming that they understand what it does etc). It reduces temperatures DRAMATICALLY. In fact, as bad as it was to install them, I'm considering taking mine off to get them coated. It makes that big of a difference.

Seriously, where are you reading this stuff man.

Stainless Steel doesnt seem to be a good conductor

I even did my own fact-check with a magnet on my headers last night

You have a 6.2 L engine crammed into a fairly tight space. Our cars run hot if pushed hard. Ceramic coating and any other cooling options are beneficial to our cars.

I guess people can convince themselves of anything with the internet.

True, and this vid demonstrates the difference when the coating is applied to mild steel and not SS, but if you're even thinking about it, then do it. You won't regret it. These guys (Jet Hot) did the headers on my M5.

instead of ceramic coating what are your views on thermal titanium wraps they sell on eBay for exhausts? As a mean to reduce cost and possibly achieve same results? My headers are already blue

IMO wraps are ugly and not as inexpensive vis a vis coating as might be expected. Your used headers can/will be grit-blasted and likely be processed no differently than brand new headers.

I don't know, that's a good idea. However I thought I heard years ago that thermal wraps would rot the pipes by trapping heat in the metal, instead of the thermal coating reflecting or absorbing it. I also seem to remember that after all the surface and wrap prep that you have to do to get it to work right, you might as well just do it right and coat it. Or something like that.

I wonder if they've improved since then. I'll check it out thanks.

Bunch of horror stories out there about heat wrap still, and some good technical discussion on forums. Most companies won't even warranty headers/exhaust components if you wrap them. Might be a benefit to a dedicated drag car that just sees short bursts of power, but otherwise the consensus is no.

This is an excellent article on thermal wraps and coatings.

Update: Headers were finished ceramic coating today and dropping the car off at EC Canada for install later.

Also picked up 200 cell Magnaflow 59959 cats. https://www.summitracing.com/int/par...9959/overview/

Took them out of the package and they look fcking tiny and hollow. There is no way this cat will do anything to tame the beast.

Cant wait to drive around with this crazy setup! Will be running:

  • EC tune
  • FI Headers
  • 200 Cell HFC
  • H mid pipe
  • Straight pipe resonators
  • Charcoal delete
  • Have 1 ROW Airbox already on car(???)
  • KN filters

Am looking into block off plate/cooling techniques next. What other upgrades should I look to?

Yeah it doesn't look like those cats would do much

Be sure to take some pics and make a vid of the sounds. I'll be ordering headers soon to install over the winter when the cars put away. From what I've seen.... It looks like a B****of an install. I wanna throw on cats as well, so it'd nice to see what it'd sound like with cats. Keep up the good work dude

Thanks man! I'm like 98% sure these cats won't do ****. Will definitely posts some vids. I'm not installing it myself because it just looks way too difficult for me lol.

Do you guys think it's worth getting a EC Dyno tune ($300) over a EC v7 shelf tune from Jerry?

IMHO, it's 100% worth it to get a tune specified for your car. Think of it like this; A canned tune is simply canned a tune... One size fits all. Where as a tune specified to your car, is like a tailored suit lolol

Do the H pipe

I just got my twisted knot of an exhaust system cleared up. Plumbing is all good. I moved my racing cats 200 cell just like yours OP to immediately afternoon collectors and then Mike fabbed me up an H pipe to a custom res delete on my agency power car back.

My car went from sounding like a screaming school girl at high rpm back to the Mercedes signature note. You can literally hear the scavenging when everything is put where it's supposed to be. It's almost as if a sound engineer came in and cleaned up all the rasp and white noise then dropped it down a few octaves. Get on the gas and make the car drop. It's dope. I'll include a video. It's definitely dampened in video format just imagine it twice as loud.

For what it's worth, most of the people I know from the Subaru community who installed headers on their cars had the headers ceramic coated and then wrapped them before putting them. I did that on my car. I didn't have issues with the headers rotting but I've heard that same issue before. I think it's a problem for cheaper headers, where any amount of moisture can cause rusting. For a quality setup, I don't think it's an issue.

Although off the shelf tunes will work and more then likely drive fine on almost all c63's, every car is little different. Having a tuner look at the timing, a/f, egt's etc, will yield a better tuned car for every bit of HP/TQ and more importanly IMO, driveability.

I have the v7 tune and like it. I dont have headers or the flex fuel kit just yet. But when I do, I wont settle for anything less then 3-5 hours dyno time to dial everything in

car sounds f**king awesome with open valves. I cant even count the endless hours listening to videos on youtube of all the different combos of exhaust setups. I will ALWAYS stick with an H pipe setup over X on this car

That's no problem bro you're going to need it to flash the new tunes as jerry sends them back over.

You spent the money on the headers already so you might as well get the tune specific to your car.

Buy a ODB2 dongle i use the "foseal" off amazon. Get dash command (iPhone) or (torque android) When you're on the dyno data log the car and send that to jerry to get him more info (we recently did this on my bros 507) along with the dyno sheet with AFR. This will maximize the results on your tune.

I've done multiple remote dyno sessions with Jerry and i found this to be the most effective way to get the best tune.

If you need any help/clarification feel free to reach to me
