Chipping caliper
Bought this car 8 months ago with 14k miles. Currently at 22k miles. Its a '14 that was a southern car and has only seen one winter up north (this year) but it wasnt even driven. Not really sure if that matters but when I got this car the calipers were perfect.
Started noticing about a month ago the paint chipping off near the upper bleeder. Seems to be growing as the day goes by. Its certainly not leaking fluid and the cleaner I use on the wheels is safe. No track use, just a daily driver.
How common is this?

I've seen this happen on relatively new cars on here.
I have done some reading and some have said the wheel cleaners paired with high pressure water can cause the clear coat to flake off. Especially if you already have an existing rock chip on the caliper where the high pressure water can go under and lift up the coat.
Despite how safe Sonax Wheel Cleaner is, it actually removes the anti rust coating on two piece rotor screws. This was on a common problem for those running BBK over on M3post, etc.
Personally, I just wash my wheels and calipers with the same car shampoo I use for the paint and rinse off. I don't use a high pressure wash or anything. If you coat your wheels and calipers with Geyon Rim for example the brake dust simply washes off with minimal scrubbing.

Bleeders are tight and are not leaking. I use adams wheel cleaner with a soft brush

That aside, just noticed the front driver side has the same problem. I guess its worth a shot to see if its covered under warranty. Both sides in the same spot seems very odd. If not, guess its time to pick a color from the powdercoater.

Whenever the brake fluid was changed/bled, clearly some got on each caliper there and wasn't properly cleaned off. Gradually, over time, that area of the clear weakened. Why is that so hard for you to accept?
Please take a picture of your service advisor's face for me when you ask if the caliper paint - specifically the area immediately around each brake fluid bleeder - is covered under warranty.

It can also be caused by a rock/debris hitting. Once there is a chip, it spreads quickly and affects other areas.
It varies by location but good luck getting them to cover it under warranty. If there is anything at all that resembles a chip (even if it wasn't), they won't repair it.

Nice! Glad to see they covered it for you. Are you still under the 4 year/50k new car warranty?
Edit: Nevermind. Just saw it said Dec 19, 2017 on the invoice.

Chill dude. These ain't new calipers. They are "REMAN" so who is to say if the paint on them is anything but a nice red paint vs. a proper heat resistent paint.
They get full comp from MBUSA for warranty work but he did not get new parts.

I hope MTV10 and bentz69 enjoy stroking each other over that new paint. You both seem unusually excited about it.
It’s fuking caliper paint. Nobody cares.
