I use liquid molly 5-40 I belive or dealer oil when it's there it's there now for same
thing oil consumption they say it's normal
if driving hard but still under warrenty there replacing plugs that look bad, oil air separator, 4000 k since last oil change and my cars just above the min level so right before the light comes on. I'll know Ina few hours exactly what else is being done. Leak down test is a good start for sure mine was done and passed with flying colours thank god.

Someone told me i was burning oil on the highway. Pulled alongside me and told me he's seeing blue smoke in exhaust. This was about one hour after starting car and driving home. About 80-90km/h.

I measured my oil and it's a bit over the top red marker, was probably 2cm over the topmost red tab. Is it ok?

Notaballer: 2 centimeters over the high mark is over 3/4 of an inch over the high mark! That's a BIG overfill, and your high rpm driving habits make it even worse. Too much overfill can actually create oil leaks where none existed before, can cause the oil to run hot (didn't you recently report THAT too as a problem on another thread?), and can cause enough oil churning to get oil into the combustion chamber.

Get your oil level management under proper control. ONCE you have done THAT, THEN repeat the test of the observer watching for oil smoke while you cruise. If you still have the oil smoke then, you have a different, more serious problem (e.g. worn valve guides, or worn piston rings)

I knew I overfilled a bit. I guestimated that it was 0.5L extra, from the amount left in the Mobil 1 jug used to fill up. I think its not 2 cm, but much closer to 1. In any case, I thought it was okay since its only a marginal overfill of less than 10%. Surely our engines experience similar conditions when we go up a hill or something that causes the oil to gravitate to a specific side. Perhaps it was a bit too much and overcomplicated things. Also, potentially introduced new points of failure and unnecessary risk. God thing I have a mityvac - will mityvac out some excess oil tonight and report back after I get someone else to drive/test my car.

I get that a lot. Seems that it is very difficult in the English language to say "Gnitecki" (no vowel between the "G" and the "n").I most often hear "Jim G".My wife has THREE versions for different situations:

So after you overfilled you carefully avoided all hills and things that cause the oil to gravitate to a specific side? Since that margin for error had already been used up?

Good point. Probably not, and this was on a downhill section. Maybe that had an effect

Agreed.
I drove my car quite hard...all the time.
I used to engine brake every single time I needed to slow the car down.

I eventually went 3 months passed my service interval, and raced it a lot in that time. Not once did I need to fill oil, it never went below the full mark at all.

I'm the same I drive my car really hard and usually stay in 3rd gear and never really need to add oil.

It seems a lot of members running Mobil1 0w40 experience roughly similar consumption as me. Shout out to Diabolis and all the other vets here for their great technical contributions in many of the older threads.

Quick update: Have not had to fill up oil since my last time. Its been 6000-7000KM and still no warning light. I've been driving a lot more calm and with less downshifts/high rpm liftoff. Everytime I downshift to a stoplight above 2k rpm, I can still smell the oil. But I guess that's because I'm almost running no cats.

Yes, I havent changed my oil, despite many suggestions from people telling me to go 5w-40.

yeah...i didn't like Mobil 1...Motul X-Cess 8100 5w-40 with LiquiMoly MoS2 is the honey to wine.

I had secondary cat delete, resonator delete, and mufflers delete. Never had the burning oil smell. If that helps.

Thanks for the info. Do you top up oil between changes? I had deleted secondaries and resonators too, and couldnt smell anything. It was only after headers (which deletes the stock primary cats) that I smelled exhaust fumes at every stoplight and oil smell on high rpm downshifts when coming to a stop.

I never did headers though.
