Well welcome to being the first person to **** me off today.
I don't need no freaking counsel from you about this forum. As a rookie of 6 mo here recognize that I have been on these forums for years. W124, W208, W211, W212 W113, R170, R172 etc. and nobody in 30 yr had any issue translating currency based on the fact I am a CANADIAN speaking in CDN dollars.
And why is so f------g necessary to be precise to the penny. Look at the GD big picture for crying out loud.

Alex, the point is that NEITHER cost you quoted was accurate. You cannot ignore taxes and shipping. Plus, yourCanadian cost of $500 was wrong even withOUT the taxes and shipping (it's actually $680 CDNbefore taxes and shipping). If you are going to quote costs, quote them accurately, especially when trying to make an economic case for doing something.

What I can do is ignore your **** commentary Jim.
I give people on this site credit for being able to see the big picture, figure out as I said I usually quote in my own currency and I figure that as a pretty smart bunch they can do the math for themselves at any point in time based on currency exchange rates.
Besides what you and I pay in Canada probably has no relevance to US pricing anywhy. Some local NAPA franchisess or mom and pop tire store might just sell wheels for these or any car way cheaper than you and I will even know.
Give it a rest. It ain't relevant.

So, has anyone made a decision what tires to use? 235/35/19 all around or 235/35/19 in the front and 255/35/19 in the rear? I think I need to order a set and I'm still not sure which way to go...

What is on your car now? Check page 349 for wheel and tire sizes in the square and staggered set up.
I am running the square set up on 18s for winters and the stock stagger for summer tires.
As a comment on the Hakkapiilti R2 winters, if their performance last week in extreme wet conditions with lots of water running across the road in rivers and ponding along the sides up to 2-3 in deep is any indicator of how they will be in our wet snow I think I will be a happy camper.

Im getting 235/35/19 for the front and 255/35/19 for the rear. Just have to try it and see if the car accepts it. Too many unknowns around here after going back in forth in this thread. Havent ordered it yet though.

235/35/19 and 255/35/19 Pirelli winter sottozero 3 were mounted. 75 miles of mixed city and highway driving (max speed 100mph) and the car is riding fine. No codes, no rubbing.

First snow of the year for NY expected tomorrow. Only 3-5 inches but enough to see how the tires feel and the car reacts.

I have (2) Continental ExtremeContact DW 275/30/19 and (2) 235/35/19 for sale if anyone is interested

275s have 8/32 left and have about 7000 miles
235s have 5/32 left and have about 13000 miles

I'd be really interested in how these 19 inch Pirelli winter tires do in the ice and snow. Please DO post some more after you have had a chance to see how they work!

I went with 235/35/19 all around and the rears look stretched out. Traction control is also quite aggressive because the tire is so narrow compared to my 275 and because I also have studded tires I'm basically driving with metal wheels on asphalt So yeah, should have gone with 255 in the rear. At least now I know they will fit without problems.

So, about using the square non staggered all around:
I did not find in Xentry for the rear axle, under acceptable tire size, the 235 size. So this started to seem weird, so I went to the monthly chat session in the private lounge and asked the question there. It took almost 30 minutes to get an answer (or so it seemed), but the answer was that there must be a mistake in the owner's manual.

Now meanwhile, seeing how the DWS with S showing on the thread, could not move my car up the driveway 1 foot with 2 inches of snow, I decided that this car really needs something with some bite for the rear.
So I got Blizzaks in the 255 size.
Turns out that the Blizzaks already reduce the contact patch width by an inch or so. The thread only begins half inch inside the flat area of the tire, at least looks like this.
So my real width went from a 255 to something like 235.

So immediately I started to experience what rnepello posts:
Floor it from standing at an on ramp, nothing but traction blinks and when it actually catches the rear has micro-fishtails..

But at the same time (maybe it's me watching too many youtube reviews), reminded me of the Chris Harris review of the C63 on skinny spare wheels. The car seems more natural truer to its impulses, predictable, you feel you know what's coming next.
To give you an example, there's an offramp for my exit, long almost 1/4 mile followed by a mild turn, all go really fast and brake at the last minute while merging in the turn. I always felt I could smoke the merging people but not confident I know what the car will do while merging under braking from say 80 or 90. With setup you go a bit slower but you know what's coming.
