Need some more info about smog
I live in CA. I purchased a 2013 c63 from a Mercedes dealer about 2 months ago. The registration expires on 2/18 and I haven't got the notice yet to pay for the renewal but I can search it up on the DMV website. I have a set of headers that are coming in tomorrow and would love to install them this week. My concern is that I don't know if my registration renewal will ask for a smog check or not. From what I've read, registration is once every 2 years after the 4th year of a new car. My car was manufactured in 2012 so like, 2012 + 4 = 2016 + once every 2 years = 2018 is possibly that time? OR does the 2 years start from the date of purchase from the dealers? I'd really hate to install my headers and end up taking them off again.... or end up spending $400 for hot smog... OR option 2 would be to get a smog check now which last 90 days and should cross with the renewal BUT what if they require a smog check from the date of the renewal? What should i do?

From DMV website: "To determine the first year a vehicle is subject to a biennial or change-of-ownership Smog Check, add six or four, respectively, to the model year of a vehicle. For example, a 2010 model-year vehicle will first be subject to a biennial Smog Check in 2016 (2010 + 6 = 2016) and a change-of-ownership Smog Check in 2014 (2010 + 4 = 2014)."
Since your vehicle is a 2013, your biennial smog check would be 6 years after that. 2013+6=2019. However, I would definitely call dmv in the morning (not on a monday. usually 30-45 min hold) and confirm with them everything. Or if you have AAA insurance, call the dmv department to confirm.
