Can a 2009 accept facelift tail lights?
I would like to drop in some facelift model tail lights. Are they plug and play? I do have an MB star diagnostic system... so if rear SAM programming is required, I’m hoping I can do it myself.
Thanks in advance!

i'm not 100% sure, but i believe the sam needs to be recoded for 2008 and 2009's. i think it doesn't work at all for 2010 and 2011's. it's been a while so i really don't remember for sure.
that's the case if you're using oem lights, but if you purchase oem style aftermarket lights off ebay or something, they should be plug and play.

The SAM will need to be coded on a 2009 and it is not possible on a 2010 and newer. At least that was the case unless someone managed to figure it out. There are a few threads on this here if you search you may be able to dig them up.

You cant just "drop in" facelift tail lights. You need a new SAM and that SAM needs to be coded. Your only option is DEPO plug and play facelift tail lights. They have fuses and resistors that accommodate the load from electrical currents.

You can recode the existing 2009 SAM with the right tool

Only if you have halogen. There are no replacement headlights that are drop in if your car is equipped with bi-xenon. You can do a lot of wire splicing and make it happen though, if you're up for it.
My lights are another alternative, but need to be spliced and retrofited for xenon.
