And I'm really not trying to bicker about this thing, I hope it works as much as anyone. But the Nurburgring is a high-speed track that probably never sees temps over 90F (avg Jul/Aug temps are 67F). I highly doubt a stock C63 would even see limp mode there. Generally speaking, it's all the downshifting and braking combined with lower speeds and high ambient temps that really spike the oil temps and throw up the limp.

Germany isn’t that cold.
I used to live and grew up about an hour away from the ring and visited it quiet often as a spectator and also to take a few laps. In general you are correct about the average temps which probably came from google.
Summers get quiet hot over there as well. It’s not uncommon to have temps in the 90’ and especially the last couple years with temps in the high 90F range.
It’s comparable to Philadelphia weather.

Yeah I respect that you lived nearby - I used to go all the time when I lived in London and Paris. Agree lots of nice sunny days, but also a lot of overcast and rain. I get that it sees 90, I was just saying that it’s pretty uncommon. More like Boston.

Regardless of whether it is a high speed race track, I have not managed to drive 2 laps in a row. After the first lap you have to go out and let the car cool down for 15-30 minutes. Just before the end of the lap the car has a temperature of over 130 degrees Celsius with an outside temperature of 27 degrees Celsius.

I always thought that Vmax runs heat the oil the most. Even though there is a lot of cooling air coming in.
WOT for minutes in a row I though really tests everything.
I thought that the Nordschleife has that towards the end of the run.

Still, there are a couple of sections where you would probably see 175mph in a modded C63.

If someone has never driven the Nordschleife, he will never understand the people who talk about it.

Agree, it’s a dangerous place. My first time I missed a turn near Fox Hole and went through the uphill chicane, sideways, at about 100mph. Code brown.

Just curios: so you had your modded C63 in the US, you decided you want to drive it around the Nuerburgring? Is this why you're mentioning your incident and the speeds that one can achieve in a C63?
How difficult was it to get to that point?
You shipped it there in a container to. ... Hamburg? Did you ship it alone in the container, or container was shared with another car?
Once you got the car out, did you get some kind of temporary plates for Europe done, is that even possible without smogging it there in accordance with those Euro 6 standards or whatever they may be? And good luck with having no cats?
Or did you trailer it to Nuerburgring and back?
If so, what kind of money can one be looking at for the car's round trip to the Nordschleife?

Nice.
The 996 TT is of course AWD.
One thing I always wanted is to own a RWD and find someone to teach me how to overcome the native handling of this car.
I've read in magazines that you can do part of it with trail braking and part with Scandinavian Flick.
Anyway, watch the video on the German magazine/channel Druck on YouTube with the R8 vs GT2 RS on snowy alpine roads. The GT2 is driven by Walter Rohrl of course...
Even if Walter is who he is, to me it shows that the GT2 does have a way to be fast in slippery conditions, very fast.
