w204 C63 AMG p30 brakes

I have a 2013 C63 AMG with the p30 performance package (2 piece rotors, red caliper brakes). Is it possible to down grade the 2 piece rotors to a 1 piece rotor.

yes they fit and work fine - lots of people do it for the cost savings especially if you don't track the car and really don't need the advantages of the 2 piece.

Great thanks!

And would a brake pad like the Porterfield R4-S still be appropriate to minimize the brake dust?

Yes any ceramic pad will reduce brake dust , I stuck with oem because the bite on them are alot quicker then ceramic pads and also does not require more pedal pressure to be applied.

Yep, just did the exact thing you were asking about. Got rotors and pads (Porterfield) on. Havn't cleaned my wheels yet but I can tell the dust is less then with stock pads.

I went to Stop Tech ceramics on my E63, and couldn't be happier. The brake dust is gone, and brake material has enough initial bite to slow this beast down in a hurry.

I have never been happy with even what people say are the best ceramics, initial bite and feel is so good on the OEM pads I just am willing to deal with the dust, if you can deal with the difference in feel (some people notice it less, to me it is noticeable) then it is nice not to have to deal with the dust for sure- has been years since I tried ceramics, so maybe they have figured it out!

I have Textar rotors and its OEM grade. Zinc coated and all. Should run you close to $200CAD/each. ZImmerman is also an option.

I did the same thing, went with one piece. I think mine were Zimmerman, I just used the oem part #'s and ordered.

I ordered from two sites (lowest prices at that time). I always use OEDiscountParts when I can, (Tracy is great there). FCPEuro has great selection and an amazing replacement/warranty (lifetime).

OEDiscountParts - Rear (2044230412) - $49 each, plus shipping
FCPEuro - Front (0004212012) - $121 each, plush shipping

I also just replaced my original P31 front rotors and they are NOT two piece, but machined to look like they are. One problem with the C63 is that there are no air passages to the front brakes for cooling so MB machines the rotor which knocks off some unsprung weight and lets air filter through. Going to non OEM rotors adds 8 pounds to each corner BTW! I installed EBC yellow pads all around which gives a nice strong pedal with Wilwood EXP brake fluid.

I am aware that MB does not give out the actual HP & TQ ratings for their engines and wondered if anyone has taken their C63 (D) car to be dynoed?? I've heard of higher numbers but only once so not verified. I'm now thinking of taking mine in to be checked.

Pardon my ignorance - why do this? Is the higher cost of the 2-piece setup the only reason?

(I bought a 2013 P30/P31 some 6 months ago and haven't had to change anything yet)

My C63-P31 has almost 45K miles on it and knew there were no air vents going to the brakes. The driver side is closed off and the passenger side is open for the oil cooler behind it.. My front pads were down to around 3/32" so needed to be replaced and I was planning to do a one day HPDE at Charlotte Motor Speedway. I first drove their ROVAL course with IMSA back in 1972 and also the upgraded course since then. Starting this past fall CMS has been working on a revision of the ROVAL that NASCAR will be using this fall and I wanted to drive it first hand to see what the changes are. So rotor costs were not the deciding factor for not using OEM so I replaced the rotors with ones (StopTech) that are manufactured with different metallurgy and higher compound pads for street and track. The one day affair was great and quite a few changes were made. The new 'bus top' on the back straight wasn't used as it is now all Armco and can do severe damage to a car there. There was talk of making a safer runoff area there but not done yet. I have built many road racing and street vehicles during my lifetime....such as my 1984 190 that has 460hp track car that is now for sale, as it is being replaced with a 700hp NASCAR motored Porsche 944 that weighs just under 2500 lbs!! I also work with a TransAm car team next door to my shop.

As stated previously, the P31 front rotors are NOT two piece, just machined to appear as that!! Don't believe me, take a good look the next time you have a front wheel off the spindle. Matter of fact, I still have the old ones and can take a picture of both sides to prove it.!!

Good Day,
TobiasMB

Actually, I'm pretty sure the P31 rotors are Brembo co-cast, where they cast an aluminum hub into an iron friction ring. This makes it essentially a 2-piece rotor in terms of weight and function, but more similar to a 1-piece in the sense that the whole thing needs to be replaced at the end of its usable life. The funny part is that the co-cast was supposed to reduce manufacturing costs by not having to assemble a separate disk and hub together, but for some reason Mercedes prices reflect the exact opposite.

Now that I think of it, I am the second registered owner (after four prior dealer caretakers) so the rotors I replaced may not have been the original ones. There is the chance that someone
has replaced them prior to my purchase as I didn't get any prior paperwork. All I know is what I described earlier and will check with my dealer to find the correct information.

Have a good weekend,

My brakes were squeaky no matter what I or the dealer tried, in order to fix it. My pads were getting close to needing to be swapped out anyway. They recommended to change the rotors at the same time so you get even wear/embedding.
