PSA: New Recall Involving MY '13-'14 Air Bag Deployment
I recently received an email from my dealer about a new recall for my C63. For us W204 guys, it's the 13-14 C63's and the 12-14 C classes, but there's other models affected too.
NHTSA pdf is here: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/201...7V627-3292.PDF
Ultimately:
Daimler AG (DAG), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain B-Class electric, C-Class, E-Class and CLA, GLA, GLC, GLK-Class vehicles (242, 204, 205, 207, 212, 117, 156, 253 platform) an electrostatic discharge, when combined with a broken steering column module clock spring and an insufficient grounding of the steering components, could lead to an inadvertent deployment of the driver airbag. A broken steering column module clock spring activates a driver airbag warning message in the instrument cluster, as well as the red airbag warning lamp. An inadvertent driver airbag deployment may cause a risk of injury to the driver and might increase the risk of a potential crash.
CONSEQUENCE
An inadvertent driver airbag deployment may cause a risk of injury to the driver and might increase the risk of a potential crash.
REMEDIES
As a precautionary measure an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer, will add sufficient grounding to the steering components on the affected vehicles.
I have not contacted my dealer yet for anything, so not sure the process or time required, but thought y'all might be interested.
Stay safe out there!
Cheers,
