Dealer screwed up transmission oil change!
So had B5 service done Friday - all fluids and filters basically.
Drove the car home (8 miles) on Friday and put it in the garage. Today, went to the movies with my son, about 6 or 7 miles away on the highway. Got home, put the car in the garage, my wife comes in about 10 minutes later and says the garage smells and is full of smoke. Go out and car is heavily leaking trans fluid dripping all over the floor and exhaust causing the smoke.
****ing hate the dealer, regardless of brand seems I have to go back about 30% of the time for stuff they screw up, now going to have to have them tow it probably back to the dealer to figure out what they did wrong, not sure if the overfilled it or didn't tighten something, going to let it cool down and put it on my lift maybe tonight and see what is going on before I have them drag it back to the dealer where they will probably damage it towing it.

Sorry to read this. Another thing that always happens to me is when they screw something up, they act as of it's 'no big deal' and 'accidents happen' and 'no one's perfect' and blah blah blah........hope this gets resolved to your liking. Good luck.

It lost a lot of oil, like not overfilled, entire bottom of car is coated, about a quart on the floor, so either the pan seal is leaking or they didn't tighten one of the fill plugs is my guess.

Yep. All I read every time someone goes in for transmission service is it comes back worse.
They do everything trashy almost everywhere, its so annoying.
The only proper way is to do it yourself, because you just can't trust people these days.

Agreed and would have done it myself except it came with 2 years of paid maintenance as part of the CPO deal, so figure saved a few hundred in parts to take advantage of that and now regret it.

Sux bad! Just had mine done but not at the dealer. No issues. Sometimes it’s better to either diy or find a solid indi shop.

That's disappointing to hear. I'd say 90% of the time I don't run into issues with servicing at the dealer. Sounds like the tech who worked on it half assed it. BTW, clean off the transmission fluid if it's any painted surfaces. It could have misted behind your car so check the rear trunk area.
I have prepaid maintenance as well and just had my B service done on my BS. Engine oil change, replace engine & cabin air filters, new spark plugs, diff/tranny service, brake fluid flush, and wiper blades.
No issues on any of it except for the alignment I had done. When I picked up the car I noticed it was pulling to the right on the drive home. I know all about road crown, etc, but this was more than usual. I took it back and they agreed it was pulling, so they realigned it. Turns out the original machine they used was out of calibration. I pick it up for the second time and the pulling is gone, but the steering wheel isn't centered. In order to drive it straight you have to hold the steering wheel kind of cockeyed. I took it back for the third time and they did some minor adjustments which improved it, but not 100% IMO. It's so minor I'll live it with it till next year's alignment.
It all boils down to the tech and their quality of work. If you find one who cares about their work then you won't run into any problems. Most of these issues people run into at the dealer is from techs being careless, and not double checking their work.

Ya I usually do my own stuff, but was a free service that now will cost more in hassle than it saved me. Luckily I didn't drive far, if I went somewhere and drove for an hour or 2, I think the trans would have run out of oil and probably been damaged beyond repair - luckily I think it didn't loose enough to do any harm.

Reminds me... Back in 2007, my dealer botched the alignment on my C32. Wore the inside of the rear tire down the threads in 1 week. Took it back and they agreed to fix and replace tire... which they replaced with the front size on the rear wheel... It really seems like we know these cars better than they do.

Ok got a flatbed, good guy and came pretty quick, under an hour this morning - dropped it off and have an E300 for the day, will be interesting to see what let go, I was cleaning the oil off my driveway and there is a very obvious heavy trail when I came in the driveway and I found another trail that was only maybe 10 or so spots in a line either from when I got back from the dealer or when I left on Sunday to go out, so whatever the issue it started leaking much worst and seems to leak when sitting as it sat over night dripping on some cardboard and I rolled it outside and put some cardboard under it and after an hour had made a good sized stain so maybe they cracked the pan or screwed up the pan seal or drainbolt is not tight or stripped.

That sucks; sometimes I guess it's just the luck of the draw when it comes to those places. My dealership experience has been the polar opposite of yours though. It's an AMG Performance Center dealer so not sure if that makes any difference but the service writer I've befriended and the techs I've spoken too all seem to be quite knowledgeable about the car.

Ya so they are the Performance Center Elite dealer in the area and have a lot of AMG techs and only AMG techs work on the car, so would expect good results - sometimes things just happen, maybe the pan cracked or something after install as the leak has gotten much worse compared to when I came home originally it looks like, hopefully will know by the end of the day.

Seems it wasn't too major, they claim the seal on the drain plug was defective and let it leak, wondering if it wasn't tightened properly as the leak got much worse over the course of a day, seems like a lot of oil to leak past the threads and the crush washer/seal thinking it backed out quite a lot. Just got it back seems leak free, have it on the lift cooling off to go over it and clean anything the missed.
E300 was pretty nice, feels like a big cushy boat compared to the AMG, but those screens are crazy high res even compared to a few years ago that is pretty nice.
Best part of the visit (after the coffee and muffin) was that they still have the CLK GTR from the Gold Rush Rally still in the showroom, god I love that car just because it is crazy it was road legal!

Cleaned the bottom they did a good job cleaning it up actually and seems to be sealed up.
Did notice some engine oil below drivers side exhaust manifold near the rear may be residual from the oil change and a spill but think after the car has been driven 4 times it would have burned off, will clean it and watch it but thinking may have a valve cover leak too now.

They did offer, but if they can't change the oil right, god knows what they would do to my driveway.
Garage was an easy wipe up, the driveway is brick, learned long ago a propane torch will burn the oil right out of the bricks in a few seconds and you never see it again, so just did that for 20 minutes and all gone!

Just my opinion here. I think that the dealers mind set is that if they screw something up, it's not a big deal as they have numerous other clients in which to collect their revenue.
At an independent shop it's slightly different, as their work and reputation depends on doing a job right the first time. As word of mouth is a great selling point.
