Ok, most of you guys are nucking futs....There is VERY little logical possiblity of the dealer's hydrolocked diagnosis being accurate. It takes about 15min to have the valve covers off so you can inspect the current headbolts. Even if a bolt head breaks off completely it can't do any real mechanical damage, if you've ever been inside the top of one of these heads you know what I'm talking about. Most of the time the shank under the bolt head "stretches", which allows coolant to push around the head gasket but due to the surrounding clamping force typically does NOT compromise the head gasket itself. Under these circumstances you can replace the bolts one at a time without even removing the head itself. new headbolts direct from MB in Germany, the cam tools, new fluids and multiple filters are less than $600 TOTAL!!! It is a weekend job for even a novice, anyone mechanically inclined can finish it in a FULL day. As long as you take your time and are organized you really can't screw it up.
Jim, you tried to NOT be the MB ******* and it didn't work for you...sorry my Friend
And Sactown, tone it down with all the PFL hate....different strokes for different folks. I chose NOT to buy FL strictly because I didn't like the lighting options which is a huge factor for where I live and drive. Plus the PFL P30 package is a more complete package than the FL P31 is out of the box. You are pro-FL, great, but stop talking down your nose at PFL owners just because that isn't YOUR preference.

Man I'm with you on that one . I have no idea why headbolts are considered such an expensive catastrophe on this forum. $5k? Get the hell out if here. Swap them out one by one and any idiot can do it. Your engine isn't going to explode because you didn't needlessly pull the whole thing off.
Then again, these are the same guys who just swallow whatever tuners tell them, with absolutely no data except hp and tq numbers from a dynojet .
