Camshaft issue on facelift C63?
Hi All,
My Euro specialist mechanic told me all M156 engine (C63) has camshaft issue when it reached >80,000km. He fixed 30+ C63 this year with camshaft issue in both pre and post facelift C63. Cost of replacing the camshaft is >$10k. Resurfacing the camshaft before it gone bad will prevent camshaft issue. $8.5k to resurface the camshaft. He said this is just the design fault with all W204 C63 or AMG with M156 engine. Have you face camshaft issue with your C63? any euro specialist mechanic can shine light on this issue?

Impressive, 30 of them this year and at the cost of $10K. Must be a well equipped shop. Looks like I have to start my own euro shop now.
I had a 2010 C63 and had the tappets and head bolts replaced, it had 110K miles on it and no sign of abnormal wear on the camshafts. And if there is an issue the inlet camshaft are usually suspect to it.

2010. Headbolts and lifters replaced at 86k miles. No signs of wear on my cams. My guess is yours are fine too.

You could make it a lot easier on yourself by cutting out a few steps and just giving him $10k without even bringing your car in. 0% downtime and peace of mind.

It's not common at all no matter if facelift, pre facelift, 507, BS. or any other MB with the M156.
Stop worrying, keep on driving and definitely use a different shop.

It is not terribly hard to pull the valve covers and inspect if you want to worry about it, couple hours work to open it and inspect the lobes for wear, you can probably even see a few lobes with a scope through the oil filler hole.
