I have it sitting right on top where the original one would sit. Its an eye sore but I don't mind it. I never really got around to looking if it will bolt onto the side like the older m156s but don't see why it cant.

Ah, I misread a post above. So it doesn't need vacuum but does need filtered air?

I might have missed it earlier in the thread, but is this mod only for PFL C63’s or will it also work for 2012+ C63’s?

Thank you for the photos.

When the E63 / ML63 accumulator purchased on eBay arrives, I'll poke around and see if there's an OE-style mounting location.

In the meantime, am I missing something or does this part just function like a basic vacuum canister?

What I'm referring to (would need to measure & compare volume to OE though):

yes that would work. Seems like a lot of trouble for 1hp imo tho.

the renntech intake is the best for N/A application. It’s one piece and large continuing runner into the larger volume y pipe.

been proven by dodger and Blk...

Costs be damned, the RT intake is indeed the optimal solution and I'd be lying if I said I'm not still considering it.

Realistically though, ROW air box lids, Weistec filters and a larger OE Y-Pipe (which is where the RT intake actually changes things) will yield 80+% of the result at < 20% of the cost.

scratch77,

Thank you for the advice on the E63 y intake pipe and vacuum accumulator. I just installed it today. I don’t think I can feel the difference, but just by the look, it does seem that there will be more air flow into the intake.

Its probably less than 3whp and no body can feel that. But its a cheap way to get almost the gains of the renntech box.

Any pics of your install?
Where did you locate your vacuum accumulator?
Thinking of doing same can pick up parts for AU$150.

I got pretty lucky. My buddy has an E63. He broke the clips on his intake pipe a while back. He went to a pick and pull and bought an extra intake pipe and vacuum accumulator. He just gave them to me for free. I zip tied the accumulator onto a metal bar in the back.

Thanks, I'll have to see if mine will fit on other side of engine bay (right hand drive).

Hi,

Im looking at installing this bigger Y-Pipe on my C63. But ive got a few questions.

Do you need to run the OEM vaccume canister? or can you just block it off?

Has anyone else done this before?

you can run the line to any vac canister of your choice. The oem canister that came with the larger y pipe is weird looking and is actually very hard to find nowadays. There's actually a cheap and clean looking oem bmw canister for the N54 that would be perfect given the tight space in the engine bay. I tried to use a generic one from Jegs but it was way too large. What I did was chop off the old vac box that sits on top of our oem y pipe, ran the line into that and tucked that sucker behind the passenger side head light area. It's a hack job but it'll do for now until I find time to make a cleaner set-up

There isn't much info out there on this, but to my understanding the vacuum reservoir is related to the flaps inside the intake manifold. I wouldn't block it off.

The style of canister I referenced back in 2020 was way too large to fit anywhere inside the engine bay, so I returned it.

I found this
Ford canister as a potential alternate Ford canister as a potential alternate
, which has much more manageable dimensions.

What's unclear to me, however, is what kind of an impact a larger-than-factory reservoir will have on operation (if any).

Thanks for the reply

With the N54 canister, it has two nipples (one at each end) how would you plum this up?

I did not. Still contemplating what I'd like to do with the intake on my car.

Sold my RENNtech intake (first version) earlier this year and am debating between returning to ROW lids with the larger Y pipe (at which point I'd test the Ford reservoir out), trying out the BlackBoost intake (there's some data out but ideally I'd like to see a bit more before buying) or waiting for RENNtech to re-issue their intake (latest version, which I understand has a measurable improvement over the one I had).
