2012 C63 Rattling noise from engine bay.
Hey guys, im not sure how to describe the noise. but when i rev up engine right after i start the car with the temperature around 80 C and the rpms start to drop a weird rattling noise comes from from the engine bay around the intake manifold after 1 min it disappears. It does not happen on a cold start. Any ideas what it could be? heres a link for the video i took

We have the same year C63. Mine does the same thing if it sits for a long time without being driven. I believe it’s the lifters making the sound. Make sure your oil level is good/topped off. It should go away after topping off your oil. Hope that help.

i understand if the car sits for a while, but i dont get the noise on a cold start. It Only comes out after driving the car, parking it for 40 mins then starting it again. Im assuming its coming from the intake manifold. I hope its nothing major!

Is your rattling sound relative to the revs of the engine? Does the rattling noise accelerates as your rpms climb? If so, there is a high chance the problem is internal. Also make sure to check all of your pulleys and manifold hardware for looseness. Again check oil level for accuracy.

Take a piece of wood, hold it in different places from the engine where you think the noise is coming from and put your ear to it. That way you can localize sounds pretty good.
I think it's the tappets.
You'd better use 5w-40. 0w-40 is way too thin for the engine.

i will try to do that wood trick and see if it helps. Im using 0w-40 because the cold temperatures we get in Colorado. And im positive it’s not a tappets issue, because if it was the case it would be a loud ticking noise that is consistent all the time wether you’re revving the engine or not. I’ll keep you posted!
I just remembered something. A friend of mine had something similar. There it was the engine mounts.
You can test it like this:
Brake and gas at the same time. There's one watching the engine.
The same in R.
Not too much gas!!!
