Looks good! do you know how this cooler compares in size to the setrab used by the BP engineering? I had mine installed last year and been pretty happy with it but have not been able to give it a full track test at high ambient temps, I'm guessing some further modifications will be needed to fully optimize the cooling. Heres pics from my install for reference

They use a 550 x 144 x 50 Setrab core (16 row) for 2250 USD ... That a pretty hard price.

If we get some guys for a group buy, we can get a bigger cooler (19 row Setrab) for half the price ..

Did you design the end tanks and mounting points? Looks like really nice work.

I was looking at Setrab cores a year or two ago because I wanted to increase the size of my power steering and transmission coolers. If you have any interest in taking a crack at those, I’d be happy to test them for you under extreme conditions.

Thank you! Yeah, but I didn't build it.

Nothing is currently planned in this direction. But at the end of the season I will see how the car performs.
In "extreme" testing I know quite well

If anyone's interested in the cooler, let me know! Then we can make a group buy and finally put an end to the heat wave in the C63!

Interested depending on price structure.

I am potentially interested. Sorry for the ignorance here but I believe there is a radiator behind the oil cooler. Does using the larger oil cooler have a detrimental effect on air flow to the radiator since it seems like it blocks a lot of it?

Pictures of the 44o install and also black series oil coolers look like the oil cooler is installed almost horizontally to keep the area in front of the radiator more open.

I will ask the manufacturer for a group discount tomorrow. I will also ask for the air ducting (other manufacturer).

A good point. But the cooler is so thin that the coolers behind it are sufficiently ventilated. In addition, the airflow is not directly dissipated as in the original cooler.
I tested this before in my prototype and could not find any difference in the cooling water temperature.

Arjy might have something to say about this, as he has a similar cooler, and even with an air duct behind the oil cooler that doesn't let any air through to the other coolers.

I have not noticed any issues with the water temps or a/c function with the BP cooler, both in long distance cruising and spirited canyon driving. I have gotten suggestions to have it mounted horizontally like the 44O kit, but I believe that would require some custom work to mount it and duct the air properly. Something I would look into in the future, although I am interested in the results with this new solution as well.

Sounds good but I'm only interested in the cooler. Not a street build here, everything will be completely custom underneath.

Generic coolers for that size are in the 7-800 range but you have to deal with making mounting brackets and terminating oil lines etc. Plug and play may be worth the extra cheese.

I definitely recommend the front air duct. If you have another bottom plate it is still important to install the front air duct.

Yeah, this is exactly the radiator I got my idea from. But this one has no oil drain plug and no holders for the front air duct. The air duct will make the already very good cooler even more efficient.

I have now received an offer from the manufacturer.

If we get 10 people together, the price for the cooler would be $1050. From 15 people $1000 and from 20 people $950.

The air duct would cost $100-150. They just gave me a rough number. I'll have more details tomorrow or the day after.

Shipping to USA would cost $45

Total price 1195$ (10 persons).

Contents: Oil cooler incl. air ducting and oil drain plug.

Edit: What I forgot to say: the radiator is not painted, it‘s powder coated!

I hope that I stay under 5 kg with the package, then it is 45$ shipping costs. The next step would be 10kg and then it would be 60$. I try my best.

Shipping is by DHL.

One more thing: When removing the cooler, I broke off a screw in the thread of the old oil cooler. The screw was badly oxidized.
At the same time I would replace the two sealing rings on the oil line.
O-Rings: 2x A 012 997 56 48 = 5 $
Screws: 1x N910143 006001 = 1,50$

So, I am back from the workshop and today I adapted the prototype of the air ducting.

It fits perfectly!
The air duct is made of 3mm thick aluminium. So there is no difficulty on our highways above 300 km/h. Yeah, I love Germany.
Here are a few pictures.

Additionally I have adjusted the lower air fins. They're not screwed down yet. Also here everything is great.

Everything completely installed, tested and approved.

No more temperature problems! The temperatures are comparable to the temperatures from the 44O Package.

I have now put the cooler on eBay. We don't need to make a group purchase anymore. The manufacturer was very nice and will now offer this price for single coolers as well.

May I post the eBay link here?
If not, please delete it.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-C6...EAAOSwuOJeRn-F

If someone also wants the bottom ducting, just send me a message on eBay. Then I will put it for free to the package.

I haven't been to the race track yet. I can answer that at the end of March, when I was at the Nürburgring.

I know my car relatively well. I tested like that: I drove on public roads for 30 minutes at a brisk pace. Only in 2 and 3 gear in M at high speed. Braking, accelerating, braking, accelerating and so on. This would not have been possible with the original radiator. I tried this before.

I first tried the radiator without airflow. Then I tested with the front airflow. You could measure an improvement of up to 5 degrees Celsius with the airflow. With the airflow I did not get over 120 degrees.
