I guess I'm back to being more cheap than I am lazy I don't have the original tuner nor tune. Came flashed as is for 93 and some other nice-to-haves.

the only people with base files are an mb dealer or renntech.

interesting I didn’t know they don’t offer a base file...

Ya new England dragway has horrible track prep. My cars first gear is all spin and traction control there .

my car can run an 11.2 easily with a 1.7 60 ft. We all go there for trap speeds.

Lol they also have very low trap speed radar. My car at Atco would trap 126

My friend with a 2011 sedan with headers and no cats on v7 can't trap past 118 at new England.

add Boostane Professional to your tank to bring it up to 93 octane. shame you don't have the handheld. hopefully you still have rear oxygen sensors registering for california smog.

Wait so if I want to explore having you tune my car, but my car already has a tune in it and I don't have a handheld or base map, what would I do?

you're stuck with purchasing a dimsport handheld or whoever tuned your vehicle to return back to factory tune. don't know why any tuner would tune someone's car without giving them the ability to return back to stock. that's a "irresponsible" tuner. even for my 2002 Audi A4, any APR dealer will remove the tune FOR FREE if the owner no longer wants it. they just verify the computer has an APR tune on it...and at your consent will remove it. some shops charge a labor rate of 30 minutes but APR themselves do not impose any fee with this. any person who wants a tune from me, i strictly inform them it is best you purchase your own HPTuners interface so you can pull your own factory file and return to factory at your own leisure. this will also allow for remote tuning.

spent a lot of time trying to find out more...this is what i was able to find.

When working with your own vehicle, you will almost always read the vehicle first.
After the read, you will be prompted to license the vehicles file.
Now you have a license for your vehicle and all files you read from it.

Now that your vehicle is licensed you can flash it an unlimited number of times.

Read Vehicle.

NOTE: If you get this screen, that means your ECU needs to be unlocked or is not supported.

Essentially, if HPTuners is unable to read your ECU/ECM and download that information it will not utilize credits and license your vehicle. Again, would't say it isn't possible without trying. Don't think anybody has tried before as HPTuners advises against doing so if not on factory tune. There have been reports of people with other platforms having no issues, but again HPTuners advised against that as well.

separately, this is what dimsport had to say.

Hello,

You would have to know who the tuner is and take either the vehicle to them or the ecu to them as long as they had the stock read of course. You could always try and take it to a dealer to have them flash it back to stock. Dimsport doesn’t have anything to do with the tuning part of it as we sell the end user handhelds to the tuning company and they specifically set the handhelds up per each customer request.

Thank you,

Blake Moore
Dimsport North America
Branch Manager
but as many have attempted, purchasing a new tune and dimsport handheld has been successful in returning their vehicles back to stock form.

Take it to a shop and have it flashed back to stock.
