I have bought a lot of BMW's in the past (9 or 10) many of them being 3 series cars and I currently have a 3 series and both my sons have older ones and that face makes me run away from the brand, that is a face only a mother could love. Hopefully sales reflect that and it goes away fast. They have already backed away from the look stating that other models won't get it as they want each model to look unique (which is just a way of saying we are not going to do that to any other models!). Makes the Bangle butt that Chris Bangle designed for the early 2000's 7 series not the worst thing BMW has done lately.
The one in the first post looks a bit better than this one - the base model is even more hideous!

Don't care for it either, but it doesn't seem to matter anyway. So many maker are designing uglier cars and yet they still sell. This will likely sell too.

Would be hard decision for sure, part of the reason I did the C63 over an M3 was the sound and going to a 4 means that part of the experience is gone, really best thing to do with a 4 banger is try to hide the sound and the vibration and having driven a C300 loaner they don't do a good job hiding the terrible sound, CLA45 sounds ok at high revs, still sounds pretty bad down low. The M3/4 sounds pretty crap also but can sound better with a good exhaust, but not sure I could be seen driving it with that hideous face. Unfortunately with new Euro emissions requirements BMW may go back to a 4 cylinder also, but at some point we are all going to have to get used to now much sound with Euro requirements and everything going electric, power is no problem, but the soundtrack missing is going to be the most disappointing part.
I was afraid someone would say that. I hate that we could potentially never see C63 w a V8 again.
Let me ask you this, If you had your pick, which one would you take home?
W206 C63s sedan/coupe w an out of place 4 cylinder backed w electric motors.
or
M3/M4 w that large grille and lawn mower sounding inline 6
Instinctive outrage aside, I would drive both and compare. Until then and on paper, an M4 w/ an incredible straight six and a manual sounds more appealing to me.

Here is where I stand if I absolutely had to pick, AMG 4 - 2 BMW
Exterior - AMG wins. (I'm a fan of how BMW widens their fenders enough to fit wider track tires, great for an aggressive look, traction and handling, but BMW's large grille lost them this one)
Interior - AMG wins.
Sound - AMG wins. (Arguable because we haven't heard the 4 cylinder yet, but would put money on the line, anything sounds better than M3/M4 even with an upgraded exhaust.)
Engine - BMW wins. (BMW inline 6 has the pedigree and comes with a history vs the a a newer 4 cylinder engine)
Performance - Tie.
The perfect car in my mind is an F80 M3 for sedan or W205 C63s AMG Coupe with a M156 V8 with hybrid technology out the factory (great for sound, power and fuel economy), an 4WD with optional drift mode, and AMG interior. Call me crazy but that I would call it Frankenstein.
