Hey all:

Occasionally (lately more often) my steering wheel lock "clicks" pretty loudly when the car ignition is initiated and the whole wheel "rattles". It is almost exclusively when the wheel is off-center when I shut it off. It doesn't seem to happen if the wheel is perfectly straight.

I had a W203 that had the wheel lock fail and it is a nightmare. Am I seeing signs of an issue?

 

Sounds like you are on the right track, the ESL is going out. Best to fix it before it fails all together as it is then a nightmare to repair. Search ESL and you should get lots of posts about this problem.

Ya fix it now it is still a nightmare if it fully fails and not very hard when it is still working.
