Review of Custom Tuning Service by @eightysixtuned (hachiroku)
Like the title says - I recently got in touch with Barry, hachiroku on this forum and @eightysixtuned on Instagram.
I was running a tune from another vendor on here that was a generic “canned tune “. It ran ok but that’s all I knew at the time so that’s what I stuck with. I’m a numbers type of person and was asking my original tuner about data logging and what software / hardware they recommend. They didn’t seem interested and were always slow to respond.
Barry was recommended to me by another member so after getting in touch with him and discussing the m156 and tuning it was clear he really understood the exact ECM our cars use and how it works. I decided to give him a try and purchased the HP Tuners credits and communication device. Barry was great with getting back to me with any questions and after I got the program set up was quick to update
the tune and send it back. The big difference with Barry’s service is the data logging - he tailors the ECM to exactly your car and mods and exactly the way it behaves based on the logs. Like any manufactured product , no 2 cars are the same. With the finalized tune loaded my car pulls much harder especially in the higher RPM range, shifts are quicker , and the 1:1 throttle calibration makes the car feel better off the line. The cold idle is even smoother as well. Hoping to make it to the track soon and see how much faster it will trap now.
I have a diesel truck that I’ve been through probably 6 different tuners with and Barry was by far the best to work with. If you can use a laptop and install simple software Eightysixtuned is the way to go. Highly recommended!

https://www.hptuners.com/mpvi2/#custom_form_mpvi2 you'll need the MPVI2, skip the pro features. they aren't yet released and might never fully be. for the M156/M159 you'll need 8 credits from HP Tuners. I offer my custom tuning service outside of anything you may need to purchase from HP Tuners. I believe it's recommended to utilize Windows 10. the HP Tuners website would be the best source for those answers. Windows 10 has been free to download and license for quite some time now since Microsoft is no longer in the Operating System business. a quick search can guide you on that pathway. Edit:found this info but may he outdated. VCM Scanner has been designed to be very laptop friendly. However, if you use many math parameters, functions, and a crowded layout, system demand (and battery usage) will increase.System Requirements:•2 GHz CPU•4 GB RAM•Microsoft Windows 7 or newer•Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.1 URL of this topic:https://www.hptuners.com/help/VCM-Sc...uirements.html

Thanks! I'd love to get the custom tune but I'm in Brazil so it might not be easy to get the tuner. In any case, if I ever get the opportunity to buy one while I'm in the US, I'll be glad to reach out!

Can OP or Barry describe what kind of pulls or driving is needed for the data logging once a new file is sent? When I was remote tuning my N55 1er, the tuner needed some pretty hairy WOT 3-4 gear pulls and that got kinda tricky on public roads.

Oh I got it. The problem is that I cannot buy the tuner itself in Brazil so I'd have to buy it in the US and have it shipped here, which includes crazy tariffs that double the price. Best to pick up the tuner in the US when travelling and then do everything remotely.
Also interested on what kind of logging is needed to do a decent tune.

Question: Is it possible to purchase a handheld and use it on more than 1 vehicle?
I have a neighbor that is interested in getting a tune as well....and was wondering if we could go half on the HP Tuners device and just purchase the respective credits that we need.

yes, the MPVI2 can be linked to multiple vin numbers. as such remember that once linked you must continue to utilize the same MPVI2 otherwise HPTuners will ask you to relicense and link to another if attempted.
essentially you are linked to the MPVI2 unless you are willing to pay for more credits to link yourself to another.

Got a hold of Barry pretty quickly. Answered all my questions throughly. Plan on getting a tune from EightySixTuned within the next couple of weeks. Will update on results.
